To me, it's like seat belts, a sensible measure which should be mandatory...but then I don't ride motorbikes.

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

This is one of those deals that I am torn about. I can understand a law that protects someone from hurting someone else but this is to protect you from yourself. Seatbelts and helmets are a very good idea and should always be worn but to have a law mandating it complete with fines for not wearing them IMO goes to far. If someone want to be an idiot then I think they should be allowed.

Your kidding right? That they don't have mandatory helmet use for motorbike riders..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Normally I totally agree that if you want to be an idiot, off you go. However, there is the issue of those who have to clean up the resultant mess which is, apparently, often worse when helmets are not worn.

I don't know about cost issue...

I really love New Hampshire in the sense that it's the ONLY state in the union where wearing a seat belt or a helmet is NOT mandatory . Every time it's been on the floor the people have aggressively fought against these measures and successfully won each time so far (altough the last mandatory seat belt law was somewhat close to pass). It would be really sad and bad if these kind of measures would pass :(. In Finland it's even mandatory to wear a helmet when you skate, roller blade or bicycle. It's also mandaotry to wear a seat belt when you ride a bus. Thus I would really hate it if these things would pass in the US, especially on the federal level since all stats (like New Hampshire) really don't want these kinds of laws ...

It's personal choice. Seat-belts and helmets (if you're 18 or over) should be optional. I choose to wear both.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

It is probably a pretty good thing but the bikers say it takes away their rights. My friend sure hates it so I have to remind him about our other friend that got his brains scrambled because he wasn't wearing a helmet

And get a Darwin Award.

But seriously, they can if what they can get from someone else insurance in the case of an accident is capped.

Illinois does not have the helmet law....it is a personal choice...i have no qualms ..if i ride, i wear a helmet...

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Me too, brother...in fact, the doctor recommends that I wear a helmet all the time...even when showering.

Helmets aren't mandatory in FL, either.

Personally, I think you have to be a bit of an idiot not to wear them. Unless sucking your dinner through a straw is appealing to you. But I recognize that it's a choice so I don't get worked up about it. Best case scenario is picking the bug guts out of your hair, or having little red welts on your skin from being dinged by them. *shudder*
