We do not have much evidence in first year of marriage

To be exact, we do not have much evidence in the 1st year after I got the green card. We were living in my mother-in-law's apartment where there was no lease. It was month-to-month. My hushand had been living there a couple years before we got married. There was no lease to start with either. All the bills at that time were all in his name. The only things with both of the names are basically registration of the car, bank statements, insurance policies, pictures and greeating card during this period of time.

We then purchased a house. We have been in the house for 9 months. There are a lot more evidence now than when we were in the apartment. I think a lease is quite a strong evidence. I am thinking of asking mom-in-law to write something proving we were staying there. But I have never heard of using a "letter" instead of a lease.

To sum up, we have much more evidence in the 2nd year than the 1st year. I think our evidence is sufficient. Would the immigration think there should be more evidence in the 1st year?

Thank you very much!

Rebecca

To me the most recent evidence would be the best.

Shows you are getting your act together and moving on!

I think it doesn't matter as long as you lived together on the same roof during those years, all they want to know is that both of you are still living together and happily married! :)

Good luck on your application!

same here... we're due to file for the removal of conditions next year, but the only thing that we have our both names on are the apartment lease & joint bank account & insurance. other than that, like utility bills, car registration etc were all under my husband's name (he always just put his name on utility bills...). but we're going to have our first child by march next year before we file for the removal of conditions if everything will be fine with my pregnancy. i hope this will be enough

No worries if you have a child by the time you file. That should be proof positive that the marriage was not entered into for the purpose of evading the immigration laws. Not that I'm recommending it (and no one has been so bold enough to do this), but I bet one could send the birth certificate as the only supporting evidence and USCIS would still approve the petition. "Yeah, you had a US citizen kid, but we believe mom was trying to scam us, so she's outta here, and screw family values."

If they haul us in for an interview, you know we're bringing the kids, and I hope they are good and freakin cranky. If they feel like vomiting, having bowel accidents, destroying everything on top of the USCIS officer's desk, or all three during the interview, I will never hold that against them.

Meh

Looks like you'll be OK!

You could always go onto the intertnet and download a "standard lease form" and get your mother-in-law to complete it!!!! Back dating it ofcourse!

Just try to get things in both names like cell phone bills, utility bills, credit cards, etc. as much as you can as soon as you can. USCIS will look for length and duration of same.

Good luck!

We do not have a lease or a common title either (the house is totally paid for). I don't feel an iota of worry on that account. We would be sending other evidence like utility bills, insurance, bank and credit card stuff. Don't worry about it, if they ask you then you can explain the reasons why you didn't have a lease at the beginning (or in our case even now).

My reasons are simple enough - my lawyer advised to not do it as my wife was working in a daycare center. In daycare business even minor incidents grow up to be civil law suits by angry parents. (Nothing has happened yet - but I am keeping that in mind till she leaves this line of work.) Good Luck
