That's probably why most high school students can't vote... ;)

Can't blame 'em. "Suffrage" does sound kinda bad! I say they ('they' being whoever it is that comes up with such things) oughta change the word ;)

Well that's the whole point! so no the 'word' should not be be changed...although maybe the young ladies would understand the word Emancipation more but I doubt it  The actual word is derivative of medieval latin word (suffrāgārī) and another latin word...blah blah ...

But in my voting lifetime even when I really have not wanted to vote...I always do....even if I have to do a 'throw away" vote (which i did once) I will always vote in remembrance of women who really did suffer and die to give me that right. I was 10 when I did a project on the Suffragettes at school. Feminism really has suffered a backlash over the last 20 yrs which is why we are now dealing with reviewed abortion laws....damn...I never would have believed it! And yes, I know many women are against abortion, as there were women who were against having the vote back in the day.

Anyway....my point was the usage of the word 'suffrage' was not a mistake. It is just that young women today do not know their history.

That's always funny. The 'Man' show did the same thing a few years ago.

It was filmed on a college campus LOL!!!!!!!!

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

lol....... They probably thought he meant "End womens suffering.."

Perhaps (since "suffrage" is not a word many use commonly).

Another commonly-misused (among desis in US/Canada) word is "homely"--which NEVER DID mean "home-loving" (in common North American usage, it actually means "plain"); this word doesn't get used at all in India.

Also, can anyone explain how a person can be "innocently divorced"? (another combination exclusive to North American desis)?

Makes me wonder what percentage of ladies the guy talked to actually said NO. We only saw one.

But, for those who signed. Perhaps their right to suffrage should be suspended until they understand the word better? Perhaps that will make for a better, more educated electorate for America?

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I'm all for that. Only let people vote who can answer basic questions, like the names of their senators, governor, and president, the name of their state capital, and so so.

I was going to say the same thing... if you don't know what it is and you're so willing to sign it away then your right should be terminated. The one guy actually told his GF what she was signing  and one moron actually wrote it down even after the guy said it was "voting" because she didn't know how to even spell suffrage

FYI.... "sufferage" is not even a word that I know of.... is that in the dictionary??? So not only is there a problem here with history education but also with English!

No wonder we get such "winners" in public office!!! :P
