How does a woman go about obtaining a divorce from her husband in Jordan? The marriage took place in Jordan. Immigration is being processed. Should the filing be done here in the US? How to inform him of the divorce? Anyone have any ideas, or suggestions?

You can divorce him here in the USA using something called publication. Ask your local courthouse about it

You do not need to divorce in the MENA country to be divorced although in some countries it is faster and cheaper ( baksheesh). If you really are thinking about divorce, the first thing you should do is tell your husband and the second thing you should do is ask him if he could file there for you and how fast it is to get divorced over there. Again your other option is filing here in the courthouse short form and then doing the procedure where the person cannot be located or has abandoned the marriage. You pay to have the divorce published for a set period of time and then the divorce is granted

Tammy, I believe wahrania will have good advice for you. Call me if you want to, you have my number.

Jackie (F)

oh no no no.. you need to ask me why I know this ( smirk smirk) SHHEEEESSSSH...

You look good in your picture girl. I gotta go pick up Zahra from daycare and go break my fast right after so I am dragging..

Um Tammy... I am an expert on this ####### and can show you how to navigate your way out of it both there and here. Since you have no joint assets and he is not here, talk to him and ask him how long it would take there. If he gives you a hard time, well.. um... you can change your phone and your email and then just file in your home town. I aint even gonna ask whats up.. but you can easily get yourself out of this, do not worry. Weigh both options and if you need any help, tell me the county you are in and we can make some calls

:o Tammy I know this whole process has been so hard on you and Ibraheem, please don't give up now, you have come so close to finishing this stupid and emotional and tiring process. Hang in there just a little longer and I know that Allah will answer your prayers soon. If you need someone to talk to you know my yahoo and you know my number. Take care and try to get some rest, I know it is easier said than done but when you deprive yourself of sleep and/or food it can make you weak and not think with a clear mind and from what I have seen about you since we have gotten to know eachother and went to lunch together you are not weak, you are a very strong woman. Please take care of yourself and I'm praying for you. (F) Edited by MelissaHassan

I can't say what is going to happen, because I don't know at this point. I believe that everything happens for a reason, tho somtimes that reason is not so obvious. Maybe it was never meant to have been, and this relationship was sent to me to open my eyes about myself, and about others. Before I met my husband, I was clueless about the ME and it's people. I was one of those people that knew it existed, but to point it out on a map, no. My trail of thought followed popular belief about the ME, everything there was crude and old, the people less than murderous heathens. I was such a fool.

Because of this journey, I have seen the beauty of Jordan, and of it's people. I have stood in Petra, awed at it's timelessness and beauty. I have stood on the streets of an ancient city that has seen so much progress and growth, yet retain it's integrity. I have seen the love and closeness that the families there have for each other. I have learned that to be Muslim, does not mean that you are a bad person, or that you hate America and all it stands for. I have made friends I may never have met in this life. And I have loved a man again, with all my heart and unconditionally. I had thought never to feel that emotion again, my heart was frozen and with him it thawed again. Without him, I may never have had any of this, so I do not regret one moment.

I still love my husband. I am still in love with my husband. I don't know if that will ever change, but sometimes, you get off track. I don't know if it can be repaired, or if either of us will even want to try.

For those of you still going thru this journey, I wish speed upon the consulates. Time and distance are not a friend in the visa journey. May all of you be blessed with the richness that each of us deserve, love, and patience.

May God Bless your lives, and smile Gently upon you.

Your VJ Friend, Tammy
