Hello to everyone. First of all, I'm betting that several of these questions have already been covered but I'm new to the board and to the K-1 Visa process so please forgive me. Also, I don't have a timeline set up on my profile yet because we haven't sent in the paperwork yet and we're still exploring and trying to understand the process. Anyway, here are my questions.

Due to the type of job I have accepted, I may have to take a position in the meantime as a filler, until I can begin my original job. Has anyone filed for the visa expecting a move of residence or a change of job within the timeline of the visa processing? I'd like to file asap of course but I'm not sure if this will cause even more problems and set backs. If possible I'd like to file with the job and residence I have now and then change those pieces of information, if neccessary, along the way. Anyone that's experienced a similar situation, please advise.

Second, from the day that the visa is granted, how long does my fiance have to enter the U.S.? I know that upon entry we have 90 days to marry. But I've heard differing answers as far as the time he has to actually get here, one was 90 days, one said six months. Which is right?

Lastly, anyone that has used the Vermont Center and completed the process, could you offer your own personal experience as far as length of time. From the day you sent in your application, til your fiance reached the U.S., what are we looking at?

Again, I apologize for repeated questions, I'm new to the board. And thank you everyone for any advice or answers you can offer.

Many people have changed jobs and/or residences during the process. You just have to list and sometimes explain.

I believe you have 6 months after the visa is issued to enter the U.S. Then, 90 days to marry.

Sorry, I used Nebraska for the last question. Our time was relatively short in the whole scheme of things. You can do a search on people who have used Vermont in their timelines.

Good luck to you.

Thank you for your speedy reply! If I am to change residences after I've filed, how do I let USCIS know this? Is there an additional form or a phone number for me to inform them of this change?

Hi and welcome on board!

I am not through with the visa process yet but i can give you some answers.

Yes it's possible to change your add during the process, you will need to file a special form, sorry i dont remember the name of it but some else on here will surely tell you. You can also call the Sevice Center to change you add.

Your fiance has 6 months to enter the US after getting the visa.

Vermont is no longer as fast as it used to but we are all hoping to see some changes. USCIS is saying that K1 takes about 6months to be completed but it depends on the case itself.

You will surely get some more answers.

Good luck!

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.

I haven't finished the entire process but I went thru VSC.

Recently there has been a lot of waiting going on at VSC. I waited 114 days from the day I sent in my petition to approval. Some wait more and some less. You may want to check out this link for average processing times but it looks like most are going to wait 100+ days for approval.

Every embassy/consulate handles interviews differently: some have open appointments, others you wait for 6 months so you may want to check out what the wait times are for the embassy/consulate where your fiance would have the interview. Here is the link for VJ members who went through Auckland.

Good luck!!!

Hmm, for some reason the link for New the VJers who went through Auckland is not working.

Anyways, you can filter the timelines and see for yourself :)

USCIS Online Change of Address

Introduction

Customers who have an application and/or petition which has been filed with USCIS but has not yet been decided (also known as a 'pending' case) should notify USCIS of any change of address as soon as possible after moving.

The law requires nearly all non-U.S. Citizens1 to report a change of address within 10 days of moving by completing a Form AR-11. Abiding by these legal requirements and completing the necessary forms does not update an address on any applications or petitions pending with USCIS. Non-citizens with pending cases must do both.

Most customers can now notify USCIS to change their address on a pending case online here on our website. Non-citizens can also now complete the Form AR-11 online here on our website.

If you choose to change your address online using our Online Change of Address Notification tool, you will need to have some information available. Please have the following information available before you begin:

Your receipt notice or other notice we sent you showing your receipt number (if you have a pending case with USCIS).

Your new address

Your old address

If you have filed a petition for a family member, please have the names and biographical information for that person.

When you last entered the United States (if you cannot remember this information please fill in an approximate date)

Where you last entered the United States (through what port of entry you entered - whether by land, sea or air)

Next Step

If you have the above information and are ready to start,

Change your address online

1. The only persons exempt from this requirement are nonimmigrants currently in A or G status (e.g. foreign government officials and international organization aliens) and certain nonimmigrants who do not possess a visa and whose current stay in the U.S. has not exceeded or will not exceed 29 days.
