I am trying to move the U.S. on short notice and nothing is going my way. After being unemployed and stuck in the Canadian immigration system for 2 years, I finally decide to go back to the U.S. Fortunately, only 1 month of looking for a good job, I find one and have a start date of Oct 1. Unfortunately, we are flat broke (yes, completely broke as in running out of food, etc). I have to borrow some money from my mother in law (in Canada) but the funds are in Chile. We had to jump through some hoops so someone in Chile can withdraw the funds and Western Union them to me and I FedEx'd out the forms to Chile today. Chile has some kind of holiday week coming up and FedEx can only give delivery of the 'overnight' package on Thurs, Sep 20! I have to be in Phoenix, find an apartment, buy some blankets and pillows so I can sleep on my new apartment's floor for a while, all before Oct 1. I don't even have the cash to pay the application fees at the various apartments in Phoenix, let alone come up with first month's rent and deposit and airfare there to Phoenix until the money arrives from Chile.

On top of that, I am scheduled for a drug screen here in Canada today for my new employer and the overnight package I was supposed to receive yesterday (it has the paperwork I need to bring to the drug screen) still hasn't arrived. I write this post while on hold for 30+ minutes with the the company contracted to do the drug screen so I can reschedule.

Additionally, my U.S. car here in Canada is in default with the bank. I am behind about 5 months of payments and the repo man is hunting me down. I can't drive the car to the U.S. since the plates expired and Ontario wont let me register the car since I have no status here and I am not a resident of any state, so I can't register in the U.S. either. I love that car and don't want to lose it. If I can just hang in there until my first paycheck, all will be right with the world again.

OMG just get me back in the States already! I promise I will work hard and rebuild my life and be good productive member of society. ./cry

awww all that sounds so stressful..

I hope this all gets figured out....

wouldn't it be a lot less hassle if you just gave up the car though? I know you love it but...

It's the only vehicle my husband and I have at the moment. Plus, I would think that a repo'd car on a credit report is worse than some late payments. I plan on getting it all caught up and paid off (only owe about $6k more) and then just bite down and drive it to AZ where I could register/title it. I just need to buy another 6-8 weeks before I can start making double payments on it.

Sorry to hear things aren't going great right now but it will pass. Hang in there! *hugs*

Re: Apartment... is it an option to just live week to week at a motel or something until you receive your first pay cheque? I know it's not a "great" option but cheaper right now than a security deposit and first month's rent.

Re: Food... you may wish to look into a food bank to tide you over. When you get your first pay cheque you can have your husband buy some food to donate back to them.

and you start the new job soon?

and I think Misa's idea of the weekly motels aren't too bad right now.. it'll suck but you'll be saving every dollar and not have to cough up first and last month's on the spot.

If your car isn't registered how are you driving it anyways? Why hold on to a car that you can't or shouldn't be driving?
