Has any tried submitting everything at once?

:hehe: I'm just feeling a little cheeky and impatient. :hehe: Since deciding that we wanted to make the move to the US, we have made an appointment to give notice of marriage, got all the tax info from my future MIL (I know, way ahead of time, but we were fedexing something anyway), had a big hulabaloo with my family about getting married, missed the notice appointment, decided to do it anyway and made a new one. It's on monday. I've also just applied for my police cert. In 20 days we can have the last piece of the puzzle, and be ready to file for CR-1 (DCF in London)

So I was just thinking...

Since I have almost everything we will need for the whole process. What would happen if submitted everything all at once? Would it be faster? Has anyone tried it?

I think I remember seeing someone with a really short timeline giving the explanation that they submitted the DS-230 with the I-130 but I can't find it now. I'm not in a huge panic to leave, we don't need to be over there for any deadline, but since I've decided to move, I just want to go as soon as I can. :clock: I don't want to replace the hoover that's broken, or buy a winter coat (moving to California) and I keep looking at my stuff in terms of how easy they will be to ship or get rid of. If it worked it'd be great...

What do you think?

Hello there! :)

The I-130 goes to London USCIS and the DS-230 and DS-2001 go to the embassy, so you wouldn't submit them together. In the past, I know people have submitted them at the same time, but I've heard of others causing the embassy confusion by doing it this way. You won't have a case number until the I-130 is approved, and so the embassy won't know why you're sending the DS-230 until you have a case number. Plus, sending it's sending the DS-2001 checklist that actually makes the interview date happen.

So, the best thing to do is just wait until the I-130 is approved. As soon as it's approved, go ahead and send the DS-230 Part 1 and DS-2001 to the embassy right away. Also, as soon as the I-130 is approved and you have the case number, you can schedule the medical exam. You can get the vaccinations (if you need them) in advance, and have all your paperwork ready in advance. But it's best not to confuse the embassy by sending anything until your case number has been generated and they have what they need from the London USCIS office.

Whew... that was quite a long winded way of saying "don't submit everything at once!" :P

As long as everything goes smoothly, you should be in America by around March 2008 or maybe late February 2008. :)

Ahh, so London USCIS and the Embassy are two separate entities. That makes sense. I was expecting something more along the lines of 'get in line like the rest of us' !

I'm more of the school of thought that I wish everyone in a legit relationship who's done the work for it was approved in a day! :P

I believe London USCIS is located inside the embassy building... at least, something gave me that impression at some point. But yes, they are separate entities still for this purpose.

It's a bit confusing because in London it's not exactly DCF since we're filing in our local overseas USCIS office rather than directly with the embassy/consulate like people do in countries where there isn't an overseas USCIS office. Once the London USCIS office has done their bit with the I-130, then the case is handled by the embassy just like it is for everyone else. :)

Interesting, I never knew that. So is that why we are unable to submit the I-130 in person like some of the other European embassies?

I do wish the London USCIS office would get a move on; they've been stuck processing petitions filed on June 20th for about six weeks now.

Happened last year just the same, they didn't process any during August into September.

The department that processes the I-130 is entirely separate from the Consular Dept that processes the visas.

Thanks Lansbury. Looking at your timeline it's encouraging for me that even with last year's summer slow-down your I-130 was still approved in 3 months. I'm hoping, I'll get my NOA2 early October.

Hmm... I don't know why we can't submit in person. That could be possibly right through - like, other embassies can take them in person because they have the manpower to process them that way, but maybe the London USCIS just doesn't have a front desk type place or the manpower to process them that way.
