Did you file an AR-11 (address change form)? Anytime you move (i.e. change addresses) you have to fill one of these out and file with USCIS.

AR-11 AND an I-865 for the sponsor.

Its also usually a good idea to phone them a couple weeks later to follow up and make sure they've changed the address, as the AR-11 does not get a receipt of any sort, its never a sure thing that it gets done.

the post office messed up our mail (because we put it on hold for a while and then we changed to the old address but the last one never went through), they sent back the papers because of the "return policy", do you have any idea of what is next? thanks!

They won't forward USCIS mail - it gets returned.

I will have to look up the dates, but they were removing the 'no forwarding' from their envelopes

I don't know if that policy has changed recently, all anecodtal evidence here has supported address changes as a "problem" when pending cases are involved. Sure there are some sucess stories. I was kinda going off the topic title as well:

NOA1 returned to USCIS I took this to mean she has confirmed the NOA was returned.

Ditto! Then I called to make sure it was changed and they wouldn't give me any information. They just said "if you got the printed of receipt then it was changed" and it was.

FWIW, received an NOA1 this past week and there is absolutely no reference on the envelope indicating that the letter should not be forwarded.... I know anectotal evidence has been to the contrary....

i went to my local USCIS and they gave my my receipt # for AOS and work whatever paper, they didnt say anything about my biometrics apointment, so with this info i called and change my address, they lady on the phone transfered my to an immigration officer because she couldnt find my case in the system, at the end they changed it and gave me a confirmation number, but again they didnt say anytjhing about biometrics apointment so i dnt know if they sent it and it got returned or hasnt been sent yet.
