Hello,

I am a US citizen, and have been living in Canada. I am moving to the US and want to bring my wife of 15 years with me.

One of the things we're doing is selling our house in Vancouver, so we will have about $900k in the bank when we leave.

What's the best approach?

Have her come down and apply in the US, or apply in Canada

I do not think you can do DCF (direct consular filing) in Vancouver. If this is true, they you have to file for one of the visas and your looking for 8 to 14 months depending on the type of visa before she can move. Other members might have better ideas...

Do a I-130 DCF. Most all embassies except them now. Call your embassy to double check.

Wife will end up with a IR visa which is the fastest, easiest and best visa she can get by FAR.

Don't even think about a K3.

A buddy of mine just did a IR/DCF in the Philippines in 5 months and 3 days.

No doubt different embassies have different time frames tho!

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

!! ALL PAU!

I am a USC living in Canada with my spouse of 12 years. We would have done the Direct Consular Filing of the I-130, but in the month that we tried, they were unable to accept it because of the Adam Walsh Act. They were unable to accept the I-130 for a couple months and now they are able to. We went with the K3 visa and it looks like will take 8 months. We will be going through Vancouver. (We live in Saskatchewan). If Vancouver is doing the DCF, then definitely go that way. I wish we could have done that. Good luck.

You will regret going with the K3 if you have any chance at all of getting a IR!

I am not recommending the K3 if he is able to do the DCF. I am just giving my experience. We will have our K3 interview in Oct. and move in November. For us, the K3 has worked just fine. If we could do it over again we may have waited to do the DCF, maybe not. For us, the K3 is working out just fine. Thanks.
