Confusion about Packets

Hiya ladies and gentlemen,

Just a quick question as I'm a bit confused about the process. My husband and I have just gone through the NVC process as I filed I-130 with the states and not directly to London. Now the automated message says our case is complete and was mailed to London Embassy on 5th September. Now I've heard conflicting information about what I should be expecting next.

Will I receive a Packet 3 with information to return, or has that been done through the NVC? Will I receive a Packet 4 next with the interview date and info on scheduling the medical? Has anyone here went through the NVC process before going through London for a IR-1 or CR-1 visa?

Also, I had another quick question....(I'm full of them tonight! hehe)

NVC just sent my case to London a week ago. My husband and I were hoping to move to the states by 12th October as that's when my visa expires for the UK. Do you think (in all honesty) that there is any chance we will be able to make that deadline? That's one month from today! ahhhhhhhhh

Cheers everyone!

Okay, I've just read the other thread about this subject. I hadn't seen it before I posted this one. I suppose we are still trying to figure out then whether or not a Packet 3 comes or if it is just Packet 4....Now that the case has left NVC, who can we call for questions?

If you find out let me know ! We seem to have a bunch of us CR1 via NVC people just now but there have been precious few for months (DCF doesnt count)

I suspect the only way we will find out is when a letter drops through my door as I am first of the current crop - well should be.

I have to go november 5th to get medicare at age 65 (5 years in country required).

I had lost of hope of that when i was working on pckt 3 then pckt 4 - but if the rumours of one letter are true then I think we might just make it. Interview waits are really all over the place but about 6 weeks seems average - I found out that people with 3 week and 4 weeks waits have spouses serving in the US military

My NVC complete date was august 17 and it left there august 23. I have heard NOTHING. You can call DOS washington but you get very little detail. What happens is the file is transferred electronically same day - the paper file goes courier . Then it gets fuzzy - I dont know if they then wait for an interview date which is what the DOS told me , in which case the first indication will be an interview date - or they send a pckt 3. The delay from 23 august makes me hope it will be an interview date - but I am a LONG way from sure.

Come on VJ people who have done a STANDARD embassy via NVC - is it one packet or two ? HELP !

ps there is up to 4 weeks delay if its two packets - add that to 6 weeks interview date and OCTOBER is definitely NO if it is 2 packets...

See what I mean ? it could be almost 3 months from now to interview plus x days after that before we receive the visa and fly....

This question is a big deal for you and I

It is a big deal for us. I don't think I've ever been through something as stressful as this visa process! Everyday I wait with held breath to see if anything will come in the post. I just hate the uncertainty of it all. Even if the date is far away, I would rather know now so I can start shipping things and buying flights. My visa here is up on October 12th so looks like hubby and I will be separated, even though we started the process way back on 30th January.

When did you start, by the way?

Please let me know if you receive a letter from them, as you are a few weeks ahead of me.

have a peek at my timeline link below - you will see we have been through the mill since January 9th...

Carolyn's 12 mths for driving is up October 20 and she doesn't want no car or to take a UK test so she might just go to the U.S. ahead of me...

I got back home yesterday and there was a private and confidential letter postmarked London - I raced upstairs with it and it was a statement for a credit card which I cancelled ! DRAT !

Don't worry if/when I get a letter from London. EVERYONE will know as there are about 3 threads going on this subject and nobody really knows. Well MargotDarko is going for 1 letter and I really hope she is right but I cannot rest until a VJer who has gone that route can confirm it.

Went to my daughters house 2 days ago and she said 'dad your hands are shaking' I had surfable waves on my coffee !

Yes its stressful !

I sent an email to london embassy yesterday with just the ref number in the subject line..this is the response

THIS IS AN AUTOMATED REPLY. PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS E-MAIL.

Your e-mail was deleted without being read.

I think I will try that with the IRS letters when I have been there a year ! jeez govt depts all over the world are so , so, so IMPERIOUS !

Why can't they say 'due to..we are very sorry that...' Why can't they talk like that instead of swatting people down like they are insignificant flies ? Jeez I have zero people skills but these folk are in the minus zone !

I can't believe they sent that message! Geez! I had actually sent an email to the NVC once to ask a question about our AOS, and I wasn't thrilled because the response came 2 weeks later and all they said was that they didn't know how to answer my question....but that's 10 xs better than what your reply from the embassy said!

Alan, is there no way we can speed things up at all? Would they respond to letters sent to ask for expedited cases or are we just to wait? I'm actually the American half of the couple and my visa expires on Oct 12, so I suppose I'll be flying alone as well. It's just so depressing.....I've been keeping myself super busy so I won't have to think about it.

Thing is I wasn't begging for expediting or special treatment - they didn't even have to look at my case ! just information about the system

is all I was asking for..

this is a copy:

This is a CR1 visa via National Visa Center.

It was ‘case completed’ NVC August 17 and mailed out to London August 23

Can you say whether I will receive a document checklist first and an interview appointment letter at a later date,

Or will I simply get an interview letter as the next communication..

Many thanks

Yes the not knowing is the worst bit...

Only consolation is I know there are people far far far worse off than we are in this process - we have actually made it all the way through and reached an embassy with a 'relatively' low wait time .. we should be thankful..

Still stalking round the house like a caged tiger though !!

mail comes in 90 minutes

ok peeps hear this:

I believe MargotDarko's sainthood is drawing nearer !

one of my main doubts about one letter only for CR1 via service centers is the Police Certificate and warnings to go get one...

I have just found a piece of paper in my files which says go and get a police certificate

I had assumed (a word that makes an ASSS out of U and ME) that this was a left over from my 2005 K1 visa BUT

on the bottom it says...

LND Police Cert Notice

Revised 9/16/96

BUT - I may have received it this year at some stage - have any of the current CR1's via service centers (not DCF or K1 or K3) received this notice ? if so then 1 letter seems back on....

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll get your's first and rightfully so! hehe

I know what you mean about the postal strikes! Don't they know it's precious stuff they're carrying? One good postal strike could set us back several days in the immigration arena.

Congrats about your car! Our's wont be anything that nice but that's first on our shopping list when we arrive. Just wish this stuff was over so I could be excited about moving!

just so the two of you know, I've read loads of posts here to say that the emails to the embassy do get answered, and the email you recieved Alan, is the auto reply they felt was an appropriate response to July 7th!

Even if you figured it out the packet situation already, thought you might like to know.

I have a post lady here and she has a long pony tail and is most pleasant and not the type to tip the mail into the valley.

She knows I sit in the back bedroom and watch her come down the road every morning and she is getting edgy

Perhaps I should put the binoculars away

No wonder I am not getting any mail

Heck guys we are all so close together - we are all going to get an interview date within a day or two of each other..

Isnt VJ great -if we didnt have each other to compare notes with, we would all be going nuts thinking our files were lost..

none of us has got a pckt3 - there aint one - there aint one - there aint one !

Everything is on track and they are on the way SOOOOOOOOON !!!!!
