Affidavits for I-751: Manditory or Optional?

Hi Everyone,

I know it will be about a year or so when I file for my Removal of Conditions (I-751), but I was wondering the following question:

"Are notarized affidavits manditory or optional? Has anyone been approved without them? Will the conditions on my green card be removed if I don't send these affidavit statements?"

We have enough evidence jointly (bills, correspondence, photos, etc.), so we have more than enough paperwork that way (I have a big folder that I've started collecting this evidence). We have a difference in opinion as to who to ask to sign affidavits, and frankly, we don't want to go through the hassle of harassing other people just to sign a silly piece of paper that they know us. If they know us, then they know us, they shouldn't have to prove to the governement about this in a notarized statement. We have nothing to hide about the people knowing us, and we'll be glad to send the government the copies of correspondence (for example holiday cards) between us and the people we know. The notarized statement just seems kind of forced, and it feels as though the government is judging us unfairly and wanting proof that we are good people in a legitimate married relationship.

Any thoughts or ideas greatly appreciated. Thank you.

they are not mandatory...

we didn't include any and we were approved with no problems...

they are good for evidence for someone who might not have a lot of other evidence...

Hi MarilynP,

Thanks for your reply. I'm glad that you had no problems with your removal of conditions situation, even without the affidavits. From what you said, I guess that the affidavits are more like a "last resort" for extra evidence, in case we couldn't find anything else? If that's the case, then we'll have one less worry to think about, in terms of signing affidavits.

Again, we have a lot of bills, correspondence, photos, etc. so I think we should be ok there, in terms of having enough evidence. Hopefully the government shouldn't give us any problems when it is time for me to remove the green card conditions next year.
