Lisa, I agree with you a good pre-nup should protect both. She may not have a ton of money in the bank but she is giving up a lot and should not be sent back with nothing to start a new life or if she stays here she should have enough to get on her feet and not have to go on welfare to survive.

I am not saying this to be a negative comment to anyone but I would bet that most of those who think a pre-nup is a good idea have more to loose than those who think it would be a sign of lack of committment. I will say that had my fiancee been dead set against a pre-nup I would not have pushed the issue. I am confident enough that we have a wonderful relationship and will be very happy that I value it more than anything I have.

I agree with Slim. Kazan has a nice website but I have a feeling his revenues do not quite compare to European Conncetions 20 million a year. Still a good small agency that really cares about people and knows thier women first hand is a better choice for many guys than a large site that deals in volume. I have started trying to promote his website and agency on some other forums when I can.

What a topic and thread for discussion. It's good, and enlightening, to read everyone's thoughts on both sides of this argument. Natasha and I have discussed this and come to the decision that neither of us believe a prenup is desirable for or wanted by either of us. Although I'm firmly in the 'Kazan school of thought' on prenups, I can certainly understand the logic behind those who desire them. I agree with those here who have said it's a personal decision. Deciding who to marry, or to marry at all, or how best to go about finding the love of your life are all personal decisions too, so of course something like a prenup would also be a personal decision.

Slim- you're a riot! I may not always agree with you, but I usually enjoy hearing what you have to say!

Everyone - be well and best of luck to all.

For those of you that are helping promote my site. Thank you very MUCH! I never asked for it, but greatly appreciate it. It is nice to hear you see a bit of a difference from those "Russian Bride MEGALOTS" and us! :) We do know all our ladies PERSONALLY. They are real and NOT out to "get" you. If we even get wind of a woman out for something other than happiness, love, and to be a complete family, they are quickly rejected.

Our club came about almost by accident, to tell you the truth. People saw my fiancée happier than she has ever been and asked her why? She said, "I have finally found a present man that truly loves me!" This started a small chain reaction that sent some women to us asking me, "Can you help me find a man just like you?" I have to admit my ego was on quite a high.

The powers that be here have removed my link to my site from my signature, but it seems third parties may toot my horn. I am only not allowed to "link a for profit site" even though our site has other information beyond paid services. e.g., Some photos of us, Alla's theatre clips, and some information about Russia and Kazan'. You can always PM me for additional information.

As for an update on this topic. My personal income statement is, just that, personal, However, I assure you, I have things to lose. I lost plenty in my divorce from before. And, no, I don't wish I would have had such a document then any more than now. My opinion on this subject comes from my personal beliefs and morals. I have and will always be of the mindset that my wife is my flesh and I hers. It is a spiritual joining in ALL ways. I can not and will not see it another way. I would rather lose it all and feel right than lose nothing and feel wrong. This is how I live with myself. What's mine is Alla's and hers mine. It is just the way it is for US!

Marriage, Divorce, staying together forever.... it's all a big "what if?"

We could all sit here all day and argue that we believe marriage is like this or like that or whatever based on moral and spiritual or whimsical romantic beliefs and I'd probably agree with you. But the fact is, legally speaking, there are facts involved with where you legally stand, financially speaking, after a marriage is terminated. There's nothing to argue over in that aspect.

So, as stated by so many above, it does come down to the personal decisions of those involved. I'm just waving the banner in favor of a pre-nup for those out there with more to lose. You spend years and years acquiring wealth, and over half of it ends up going to someone you've known for only a few short years?

I think the bottom line on all of this pre-nup stuff is if it's entered your head.... you probably need one. If you've never even thought about it, then you probably don't.

It entered my head in the classroom. Through books, cases, and examples. Although I have no need for it because I am an even bigger pauper than you. Now if you could assign student debt 50/50 in a prenup, that would be something. Looking at the San Francisco housing market with a medium home price of just shy of $800,000 and with only 6% of the population with a medium household income of $86,000 can afford a home, the odds us acquiring anything significant anytime soon seems bleak. What a topic - I have trying to keep up on the thread.

I have heard that prenups, atleast in california, do not hold up strongly in the court. And so attornies have to play games by wrapping assets in trusts etc. And she needs to have her independent attorney for her to review the prenup and sign it - which, for my foriegn fiancee I have no clue how would that be even remotely possible in next few months.

I have my own home and substantial assets and am thoroughly confused on what I should be doing in the matter of having prenup or not.

So if we didn't get a pre-nup, does that mean she automatically assumes half of my debts?

Call an attorney. They'll tell you exactly what to do. (You should probably also check out the suggestions in Turboguy's posts about finding out what the pre-nup is all about and how to get one, etc.)

That depends on your state. In Florida for instance, any debts you had before marriage will continue to be yours after marriage. Keep in mind, even if a court does rule a spouse liable for the other's debt, the original agreement with the creditor is not changed (so even if a court orders your spouse to pay your debt, if they don't, you still have to pay it).

Slim, the point of my debt prenup statement, was my desire to use a prenup to assign half the debt. But I have never heard of that, and would need to do more research to see if that is possible. Everything Russ said is exactly correct, in Californai debt is not split up if you have no prenup and probably even if you do. As far as I am aware, debt is assigned to the debtor. Regardless of marital status. A marital settlement agreement can of course make one spouse pay for the debts of the other, but the original debtor is still liable if the other spouse defaults on his or her duties. I guess I'll just start putting everything in her name. Ought to make it easier in the long run.
