Some people seem to have their lives together, or at least to be struggling on like the rest of us... but some people seem to lurch from crisis to crisis in a perpetual slow-motion trainwreck. I don't know if it's attention-seeking, plain dumb bad luck, lack of planning or what... Know anyone like that?

I definitely see it online, here amongst other places, but only on the periphery of my life in "real life." I tend to avoid high maintenance relationships in general and "crisis to crisis" falls under that category.

It's hard to look away when you do see it though, huh?

edited because it's way to early for good spelling. ;)

Some people just seem to have a gift for crisis' (crises? crisises?) I try to avoid them but sometimes you get sucked into their vortex and it takes a real effort to get out again, especially if you're the sort of person who wants to help others out...

I know what you mean. Most of my friends are pretty in control, but there are a few that live those trainwreck kind of lives. To be honest, those people I am thinking of are less and less a part of my life as time goes on... guess I am subconsciously avoiding them.

You mean the ones who never have any good news, just one more problem after another? I call them "energy vampires" cuz they suck the life out of you with every conversation. When I started my new life down here in Texas, I decided to get rid of all the ones from my past. No letters, no phone calls, no messenger chatting, clean cut from all the energy vampires in my life.

I can't believe the difference it's made. No more jumping when the phone rings or dreading to open an email. I got a lot of nasty stuff at first, demanding to know why I wasn't talking to them or answering them, but I ignored it all and it eventually stopped.

There's one left but I can't cut her off... she's marrying my son. A nice girl but Drama Queen to the max and always "crucializing" every little setback. Oh well. I can handle one.

Hmmm...I had a friend whose life was one drama after another....and when there wasn't enough drama to be found in her own life she just loved to get involved in someone else's....

When drama queens marry.... next, on Fox.

Some people never seem to hit that middle ground; their life is like a constant rollercoaster, extreme highs and lows. Personally, I don't think it's healthy to live that way, but wouldn't life be boring without a bit of drama every now and again?!

But yes, there are people who live from crisis to crisis, IRL and on this forum, and it can be incredibly draining on those close to them. You can only pull the "OMG!" card so many times before you lose your credibility and people stop responding in the manner you seek. A little like the boy who cried "wolf".

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

Hehhhehe - GOD my life feels like that right now! However unfortunately it's not "us" - as in me and Ben, it's a third party who indeed is as you say an "energy vampire" to the degree that she's able to suck the life out of her entire extended family in about fifteen minutes, if you don't come to the mall with pepper spray (my poor sister in law has to deal with the endless complaining almost every single night for hours on the telephone!).

My own family did lurch from crisis to crisis for years - was enough to drive me bonkers enough to move out at sixteen, after which I ahd a few little crises of my own - an adjustment phase I guess. However now...man - me and Ben (especially with HIS past - poor baby!) are chilled and stilled to the max. I like painting and decorating things, rooms, listening to Nora Jones and singing along, making bread. He likes to make things out of wood, tinker with electrisity (being an electrician, makes sense), look lovingly into our little cat's eyes and just generally be quiet!

In a week's time, the drama will end...for good! And believe me, it'll be heaven - I just don't know how some people do the rollercoaster thing their entire lives - hakuna matata, dude! :P(F)
