Can the USCIS Customer Service Line comment on RFE's?

Hello All!!

I have not received any touches since I was able to register my MSC reference numbers on the 6th of August with the USCIS website. This would not worry so much if we hadn't been having issues with some of our USPS mail going missing. I don't think the USCIS status viewer will reflect the fact that a RFE has been issued. So I realise that a RFE could have been mailed to me and it has got 'lost'.

The official guidelines say that the USCIS customer service number +1-800-375-5283 representatives do not have any information in addition to that posted on the website. Is this literally true or are they just discouraging people to call? Would they be able to comment on a possible RFE? or would I have to make an INFOPASS appointment to make such an enquiry.

Thanks for anyone's thoughts.

Literally... the call center can see what is in the online system and nothing much else...

So an INFOPASS appoinment is advised at this stage? I am just worrying what happens if a RFE was lost and I don't respond..... does that out way making an INFOPASS appointment early in the process (64 days since EAD received)?

considering the hole USCIS dug themselves into by raising their prices and no longer allowing embassies to process visas I imagine EVERYTHING is going to take much longer than it has previously. If you never receive anything and their online system doesn't display anything then they can't really hold you accountable for not replying can they?

Sometime in April: Mailed I129F to USCIS

5/31/2007 ~ NAO1 (online)

9/6/2007 ~ Touch (used RFE trick)

9/24/2007 ~ NAO2 (online and email)

9/25/2007 ~ Touch

9/27/2007 ~ NAO2 (hardcopy received)

10/22/2007 ~ Case received at NVC

10/24/2007 ~ Case forwarded to Japanese embassy!

11/2/2007 ~ Sayaka receives Packet 3!!!

12/3/2007 ~ Interview and approval

12/5/2007 ~ Visa came in the mail

1/12/2008 ~ Sayaka's flight arrives in the US!!!

Yes they do hold you accountable if their mail goes missing.... if they have issued a RFE and you fail to respond in the given time, because you did not get the RFE or you just did not respond then the next thing that will be mailed to you is a denial letter....

To the OP most people get an e-mail update saying that a RFE has been issued..... they then might get a e-mail saying the mail was returned.... if you have not got either of these then it is unlikely they have issued a RFE but if you want to be sure then an infopass appointment is the only way you are going to find out....

Thanks Kez

I was thinkng along the same lines as you, and assumed that the USCIS aren't going to be interested in the details as to why I didn't reply to an RFE.

I didn't realise that the RFE letter would probably have an email sent concurrently. I certainly haven't received any emails on the subject, so that is a good indicator. In that case I will hold off on booking an INFOPASS appointment.

Many Thanks.

The other option is to get elected help and have them make an inquiry. This typically takes a couple weeks but it is good indication of where your case is at.

NATIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE THE IO AND THEY WILLCENTER HAS THREE LEVELS OF SUPPORT. ASK THE REP THAT YOU NEED TO TALK TO TRANSFER YOUR CALL. IF ONE REP SAYS NO, DO NOT BE DISCOURGED, CALL AGAIN AND PUSH THEM UNTIL THEY TRANSFER YOU TO THE IO.

Thanks for the suggestion John. I may wait a little longer, but if we don't hear anything soon that sounds like a very good idea.

Thanks for the comments Kim. Could you just clarify who/what the 'IO' is and how I describe the support tier that I would like to get transferred to?

Is your mail getting "lost" Ie: lost in the postal system or someone stealing it or is it being returned to USCIS? If it is lost and not being returned to USCIS, then you could have major issues. They update your online case status when a document is returned to them (at least they did for me and other posters I have seen).

I NEVER received an email (or online update) that an RFE was issued to me( my case was at NBC), though I know that others have. I did get an update online that indicated that a document sent to me by USCIS was returned to them as as undeliverable (this was an RFE).

Had I not goten that update, I would never have known that an RFE was sent. I called customer service and they put in a service request to have the document remailed and luckily it came to me about a week or so later.

Logres, from my experience, the 1-800# call center can not provide you anymore info than what you can see online. And even though they're suppose to send an email along with a RFE issuance, it doesn't always happen that way though. In my situation, my RFE is lost in the mail and I never received an email notifying me a RFE is sent. So I didn't even know there was a RFE for me until my case is denied!!!!!

I'm not trying to scare you, but lost of RFE could happen. The best thing I recommend is to write USCIS a letter asking for status update. They'll reply within 30 days. It takes longer, but at least you'll get some real status update. To my knowledge, that's the only way you can get an accurate status update on you case. Good Luck!!
