Problem regarding getting a police certificate!

All right, So I'm trying to get my information together and get a head start on my packet 3. I called today to my fiancé's old town and asked about how we would go about getting a police certificate for him. The officer I spoke with informed me that the only way they issue police certificates there is in person, they will do NOTHING over the phone, through faxes, letters, or anything of the sort. This is a HUGE problem because my fiancé will not be able to go back to his old town for a visit or anything because all of his vacation time has been used and we were just in his hometown not too long ago (I wish we would have known this then, but it apparently takes 7 business days to issue one and we were only there for three business days, so it wouldn't have happened anyway). The man said that my fiancé could write in and request a letter and the man would write back a letter saying that they are only issued in person. So I don't know what to do. Do you think the embassy would accept something like that, or is my fiancé stuck?

I'm afraid they probably wouldn't. My advice is to suck it up, take some unpaid time of, and go get it.

Obtaining a Certified Criminal Records Check requires submission of a fingerprint chart; the RCMP could take between two and twelve months to process a request for a Certified Criminal Record Check. (Note: If a namecheck by a police agency reveals a conviction record, that agency may be unwilling to issue a certificate and may refer the applicant to the RCMP for a Certified Criminal Record Check.)

Canadian pardons have no effect under U.S. law. Applicants who have been convicted of a crime in Canada that was subsequently pardoned must contact an RCMP office to obtain both a Certified Criminal Record Check and copies of their pardoned criminal record. Does this mean then that if he just goes to his local office and gets one, it should be fine, it will cover him for the time he spent in his hometown before he moved?

That is my understanding that if the PC references that the CPIC was queried then it covers ALL of Canada

Kayleigh, is your fiance near an RCMP detachment? If so, he can just go in and request a police certificate from them and it will cover all of his residences throughout Canada. If he hasn't had a prior criminal record, it'll just be a simple name check and they might be able to do it on the spot.

Yes he is by an RCMP. That is such a relief! When I read that they have to get a police report from all of the places they have lived, I was worried, and then when I talked to the gentleman from Kyle's hometown and he said that you cannot get them unless you come in person, I got so worried that we would have a huge problem! In Canada, a name search is all that is required if you don't have a criminal record. In which case, all you need to do is get an RCMP name check done. Doesn't matter where you live in Canada. The reference to "places you have lived", is countries. RCMP does a Canada-wide check.
