is this really needed as supporting docs for AOS application?

You would use at least the page with the names and addresses, as evidenced you've co-mingled your funds. If you have other evidence like a lease, utility bills etc. that show the same, you might get by without the bank statement. However, if you're using assets to qualify as the sponsor, yes, you'll need the bank statements as evidence of the assets claimed.

I do not see that as a part of the AOS requirements and did not include additional bank statements when we sent in the AOS. The USCIS already have the ones I sent with the K-1 petition.

so there is a need to establish that we have a co-mingled/combined fund for AOS appln. no, we are not using assets to qualify as sponsor. i have also read someone attaching copies of wedding pics. is that necessary?

Coming on a K1 you'll only need to show co-mingling of your assets at the interview. Same for the picts. All proof of bona fide relationship should be brought to the interview.

Those who came on a different visa than K1 or K3 have to prove that their relationship is bona fide, that is why you see that some people send it with their application.
