Gary,

You trust a candidate who was a lobbyist and whose campaign is paid for by lobbyists to bring change?

If I didn't then I would have no one to vote for. They all do it. It's the way things are done in Washington.

Thought you wanted a clean sweep, rather than more of the same?

Name me a politician that doesn't entertain lobbyists. There is no "perfect" candidate only the least objectionable one.

Gary, what do you think about Mike Huckabee?

There isn't one of course. Given that though - I wonder why people insist on playing an unfair game that's essentially loaded against them (i.e. "I must vote for the least ####### candidate, rather than one who really represents what I believe").

Dude, you should check him out. If you want a conservative Republican in the White House, he's your man. He was a guest on this morning's local talk radio and I was really impressed. He proposes a tax reform that would eliminate all taxes on productivity (capital gains, payroll, etc) and instead have a consumption tax.

In a recent straw poll in Iowa, he was ranked #2 for Republican Candidates. A great speaker, very intelligent, and level headed.

A person can vote on principal but unfortunately that candidate has little chance of winning. This is the system we have and the only thing we can do is try to minimize the most odious outcomes.

We will see who gets the nomination. Obviously I will vote for whoever gets the republican nod. From what I know now Fred most closely mirrors what I believe. That is why I support him. The main thing I like about him is his Federalist way of looking at things.

Dunno - I like to think people could change the system if they put their mind and votes to better use.

I had the impression that character also counted and given that, putting all your chips on Flakey Fred seems wreckless.

Sounds similar to Gravel's proposal.

...and they're both named, Mike...coincidence? Hmmmm..

Well, if you buy into the inevitable Fred bashing you might think that. I tend to discount the attacks and "beating up on the new guy".

I'd vote to change the system to an 'American President' show with bitchy/insane/drunk presenters grilling the candidates and voting off the losers. The resulting president would only be a figure head and the real politics would take place in the House and the Senate.

At least that way there wouldn't be a bunch of money wasted on ridiculous campaigns funded by dubious sources...well, the media is a bit dubious...but at least each 'candidate' would get equal airtime so the playing field would be more or less equal.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I thought Ron Paul was supposed to be the "Republican's Republican."

I think Ron Paul's complete opposition to the war in Iraq makes him at odds with the majority of the Party.
