Hey folks,

Wendy just received her SS card in the mail today. And of course its stamped only for work, with authorization from DHS.

Is this really only for work? Can she apply for a gas card, or any other high interest credit card? I want her to start establishing good credit ASAP.

Also, anyone K1'ers in California experienced on getting their California I.D. before AOS? Wendy's I94 is still good for about 3 more weeks.

Congratulations :thumbs: Your wife is authorized to work if she filed for an EAD or the GC comes. Claudeth got her California I.D. but used the EAD to get it. I can't remember their other requirements.

Hey Lucho. The SS number is good for all those things and I believe one of the best way to establish credit is to get a secured credit card. There are many institutions that offer them...... Orchard Bank or Bank of America for example. The card limit will be determined by the amount of money you open the account with. After 6 months-1 year the money will be returned. Just make sure the institution reports to the Credit Agency. You also see if your bank or credit union allows you to co-sign a loan but also reports for your fiancee to.

You're misreading that.

It means you can use this SSN for everything, except work - for which you need authorization from DHS.

You only ever get one social security number. I've had the same one since I was a kid - thought most USCs were the same.

I've had an Orchard bank credit card when I got out of college....interest way high. But I guess we cant be too picky, anyway it's only to establish her credit.

Maybe a Macy's card, or any other ideas?

congrats! u can get other cards if you got an ID, bank accts, etc. to show them... all you have to do for the meantime is wait for the EAD and your GC then you can make a good move from there...

AS others have said the SS card is good for the bank account, credit card etc. Regarding the CA Drivers license & CA ID....the I-94 needs to be valid for 60 days. I am in the similar situation :( Guess need to wait for the EAD...sigh

Regarding the credit card...i got mine from Wells Fargo....mu hubby & I opened a joint account with them...which i guess helped in getting a regular - nonsecured-credit card.

Congratulations...start getting her name on the utility bills and bank accounts credit cards, that will help her build a credit history
