flames......

just DO IT.

Kidding. Much depends on the type of learner you are (visual, auditory, kianesthetic/tactile) and on the subject matter you ar estudying. Take a learning styles inventory test (google it) and that will help you like you don't even know. Flashcards work for some people, making summaries of each paper you read (and keep'em!), have a study journal, etc. You're in nursing, right? Let me see if I can get my colleague who teaches in our nursing programs to help out with some tips.

Kudos for being bad students, everyone  LOL

Peace, L.

Someone earlier said something about studying outside of the house/room. I'm in agreement. I'd go someplace else...and not necessarily to the library. Sometimes I'd go to a coffee shop, and find a nice comfy chair. Another idea, which worked for me, was to leave off the studying, reading etc. in the evenings. By the time I got around to getting to it in the evenings I was beat. Not a good time to be reviewing or reading anything. I'm a very early riser, so, getting up a little earlier was a much better solution for me. I'd review, write notes, do reading etc. BEFORE I left for school. The evenings were then free for ME to relax and unwind. Just something that worked for me!

and I too am a procrastinator.

For some reason this made me laugh! I think we need to start a PA group!

Hi, my name is KJ and I am a procrastinator...

Hi KJ. My name is MJ and I am a procrastinator. Welcome to the group

I used to study everything last minute, the night before the exam and even in the bus in the morning. Bad thing to do. Just do it :)

This is actually a great idea, I know that early in the morning is the time when your mind is the freshest and learning comes the easiest. It worked for me. Take long walks early in morning for an hour or two. Quiz yourself and review ideas in you mind. Cramming is a no-no but I found that if you really got mad at the subject, teacher or classmate you'd become quite motivated. Don't go crazy though and try to punch out the walls. It is hard to get mad if you're freaking out because you missed lectures or are two months behind. Another good idea is to try to read your notes every night before you go to bed, it definitely works. I never dictated a weeks' notes into a tape recorder and played them back while I was sleeping, but I heard that it works quite well. It might help if you have to only reinforce material and not compress a semester's studying into two hours. In class try to think up a few questions to ask the prof. It will keep you awake and reinforce what is being taught. Pre-read the material and then after lecture post-read the material.

Vince Lombardi once said, "fatigue makes cowards of us all." So try not to stay up late if you can avoid it.

That's about it and try not to worry, I'm sure you'll do just fine.
