When I married my ex in the states he came home to his country then 4 months later I came over....I got a temp visa at the airport then he changed it to a residents visa sponsored under his name(this is what foreign wives or husbands have to do to live here)....every 2 years it has to be renewed....no big deal. 12 years ago we decided to go try life in the states so I went to the embassy and filled out some paperwork for his visa and green card(collected some relevant documents too)....one little interview and a few weeks later he had both and off we went.....so Im reading these threads and it all sounds so time consuming and complicated and Im wondering is that something new because of 9/11 or because of personal circumstances(how you met and married etc)....I mean, was it easy for us just cause we had been married 8 years by then or what?

Just curious about it all.

Immigration was way easier 12 yrs ago. I married my ex (he's also from a mid eastern country) 13 years ago and at that time he only had his conditional green card. When he applied for his 10 year green card I had to be involved (12 yrs ago). It was so simple and didn't take months like it does now. I really believe that 9/11 affected immigration esp. involving Mid Eastern countries. Also, it seems to get more and more difficult as the years pass. For example, I know a woman who married her husband in Egypt about 4 yrs ago (post 9/11) and did a DCF. It took 6 mos. start to finish. Now DCF is almost taking as long as filing from here.

Immigration was easier just two short years ago. I wonder what it will be like in a few more years
