Children and K1 Visa

I need to know about the process of the interview and how it relates to children. My Mexican fiancee is going to have her interview in Juarez, Mexico. She lives in Monterrey, Mexico. Is her 7 year old child required to attend the interview also? and have a medical done there in Juarez? Also i wanted to bring her across the border there at Juarez after obtaining the K1 visa. What will they give to her son? is it also a K1 Visa or is it one visa that covers both of them? I'm confused on this. And since I know the K1 is good for only one entry I assume we cannot leave her son in Monterrey and cross at juarez and then return for her son in Monterrey. Please advise.

Thanks

the child would be eligible for a K-2 Visa. did you list the child on the I-129F?

the child would be applying for the K-2 Visa and would require a medical exam. I brought my step-daughter here on a K-2 Visa from the Philippines, so not familar with procedures for Juarez, Mexico. perhaps someone who has been thru there can give you some info. you might also want to check the info on the Juarez Consulate website.

The child needs their own passport and K2 visa. A visa application, fee and medical are all required for each visa applicant.

Hi pushbrk! I was about to ask the same question for my daughter. There is not much enough info on the Manila Embassy website. Oh well, thank you!

It is not required, but strongly suggested the child have there own passport. In many countries, the child can be included on the parental passport. The US will accept this situation and the K-2 visa will be placed in the parental passport along or in addition to the K-1.

YMMV

Your fiancee gets a K-1 visa, her son gets a K-2 visa. He does not have to go to the interview, under age 14 are not required to attend interview but ARE required to have a medical exam. Her son can come with her when she comes OR he can arrive later (up to one year) from her entry. He can travel by having his visa put in her passport if under age 18 but if this is the case he MUST travel with her. If he is to arrive later he will have to have his own passport.

Not all Consulates will place a 17 year old's visa in a parent's passport. IMO, for other than an infant and even for some infants it's better if they have their own passport. It's less critical for K1/K2 than for K3/K4 or CR1/IR1 because the visas are single entry. Having separate passports and visas avoids potential later complications.
