i took George's last name. it really wasnt a debate...the only thing we debate about is future kids having Georges as a middle name........im not fond of having a daughter with the middle name of Georges YKWIM??? so we will hafta see when the time comes.

I'm not really fond of this idea either, I carry my dad's name as my middle name too. However, when we baptize our children we get to give them a biblical name which I think will most likely end of being their middle name

VJ Hours - I am available M-F from 10am - 5pm PST. I will occasionaly put in some OT for a fairly good poo slinging thread or a donut.

I don't know if my vote will help you. I changed my name to my husband but I was using my maiden name before that so I didn't exactly have the same decision you have to make.

Paula

For the ladies, when you married your mena man, did you change your last name? I know this topic has already been done in the past but I'm too tired right now to look it up. lol.

I'm struggling on what to do. I currently have my ex's name and want to obviously get rid of that but I don't know if I should take my husband's last name or my maiden name. :help:

When I was married the first time I hypenated my maiden and my ex's name - then the name was so so long I just dropped my maiden name and used the exs name....when I divorced I dropped that name and used my maiden...I have debated this back and forth and I am going to keep my maiden name as a middle name and change my last name to my SO....nice to read all other's thoughts and decisions on this....

I changed my last name to my husbands. I had been using my maiden name along with the name of my ex-husband. My daughter is grown so I really didn't feel the need to keep his last name, no worry over school and doctors and such. My husband said it was up to me and this time, since my parents have both passed away, I just use my first name, middle name and his last name.

I took my husbands last name too. I had the choice to keep mine if I wanted to,my husband didn't care. Later on the day we got married, I asked him, what is my last name now? He said, your name is the same as mine, you are mine now. LOL Really, we had already talked about it and I said that I would take his name with honor, I just forgot about it on the day of our marriage, to many other things to think about I guess.

My life has been blessed with the love of 4 of the sweetest men in the world. James, Jonathan, Nicolas, and Islam, my sons and my S/O.

OPSSSSSSS I DID IT AGAIN!

Okay here's my 2cents:

I was inthe same situation. Obviously not going to keep the married name so had to decide to go back to my family name or take his.

Family name- pros- I am the daughter of my father always. so keeping that name makes sense to me. It is my hertiage.

Husband's name- pros We live in a society where it is (though less and less) the norm for a married couple to share a common last name. It is also a name that gives me an identity to who I am beyond my family heritage- an identy as a muslim for example.

There really are no cons to either choice. I went back and forth many mnay many times and in the end I tool his name as my married name, keepingmy family name as a middle name on official documents.

My husband laughs to himself when he see my name written out with his name, but he is getting use to it.

Oh yes this is what I was searching for...I wanted to ask a question if anyone knows...

How long do I have to change my last name from maiden to married from the time we're married?

Also if I change it now would that complicate the visa process? hmmm...maybe I should wait but I wonder how long I have.
