We arrived at my brother in-laws house a few hours ago. We haven't seen them since Thanksgiving, and their dog, got so excited he jumped up on hubby's lap and pee'd on him. My hubby changed his jeans and his brother threw his jeans into the washer while hubby was changing into his PJ bottoms.

My hubby's birth certificate and license were in his back pocket, and his birth certificate was distroyed.

How important is his birth certificate at the interview? There is no way to get a new one before Monday.

I sent a copy with the AOS package

They never asked us for to see one at our interview. We had included it of course with the original filing. I think you will be ok.

You will be fine, they never asked for one at our interview (they had the copy we sent with the packet.) But to be absolutely sure - take the dog with you as collateral! Good Luck

Americans mostly go by the Dl for identification. If I was your fiance I would take the piss soaked BC to the interview just so I could laugh while they passed it around trying to read it.

Now I am getting into panic mode here, after reading this thread.....

Many of you wrote that you sent a copy of the US citizen's birth certificate when you filed for AOS.

Please tell me that you don't HAVE to send a copy with the AOS package....??

I just double-checked the instructions for the I-485 and couldn't find it anywhere. I also double-checked the instructions for the I-864, and the only sponsors who have to prove citizenship are "If you are a joint sponsor or the relative of an employment-based immigrant requiring an affidavit of support".

Therefore I thought, "regular" sponsors would not have to prove that they're US citizens, so I didn't send my husband's birth certificate in with the AOS package!!

Please, someone tell me that it is not necessary

(or at least tell me where to find the instructions for it )

He definitely needs to have a passport then.

My husband doesn't have a passport but has the birth cert, either one is fine.

Just had our interview the other day. No birth certificates were asked for Thank God. I haven't been able to find mine since filing the AOS paperwork. They did ask for my drivers license and Oksana's ID and drivers permit. I think the reasoning behind that is to compare to see if we live at the same address. Got our fingers crossed. They said they would let us know the outcome by mail.

Don't let them freak you out. AOS is for the applicant not the sponsor. The sponsor is not adjusting , you are.

The most important thing for the sponsor is the ability to support. That should have been notarized which would imply that he / she presented some sort of identification.

In the worst case you could get an RFE which would only set you back a couple of days while you answered it.

Relax! There are some things to worry about, but identification of the sponsor is probably not one of them.

The birth certificate is probably not asked for, though obviously if you have it bringing it along is a good idea. If you don't, don't sweat it! Carry your driver's license or such.

hi l took photo copies of my birth certificate and althought the guy never asked to see the original, they do have a copy of birth certifcate , because it was part of the file that our lawyer handed to them. if u have copies , then go with that
