10 Simple Ways to Make the World a Kinder Place

Whether the server at your local Dairy Mart puts an extra cherry on your sundae or a friend makes you a custom-mix CD, it doesn't take much for someone else to brighten your day. So why not spread the joy?

We can all help bring happiness to our friends, neighbors, and communities sometimes, even the smallest gesture can make a huge difference in someone's life.

Here are a few simple actions you can take to put a smile on someone else's face.

1. Offer a few hours of free babysitting services to a stressed-out single parent in your neighborhood.

2. When you buy food from a vending machine, slip in an extra dollar. The next person to use the machine will be grateful for the free snack.

3. Mow the lawn or cook a meal for an elderly neighbor.

4. Next time you go out to eat, leave a thank-you note along with your server's tip.

5. When you stop at a toll booth, foot the bill for the car behind you.

6. Pay someone a compliment at least once every day.

7. Donate new children's books to a local school or library.

8. Stop in at a local nursing home and spend a few minutes chatting with the residents. Even better, bring flowers to brighten up their rooms.

9. Buy a grocery bag full of nutritious canned goods, and donate it to your local food bank.

10. Track down your favorite teachers and send them letters telling them what an inspiration they've been to you over the years.

Thought these were some great ideas.... They will brighten someone's day and also make you feel pretty good too....

how much work is it to slip an extra dollar into the vending machine?

You mean we get to pick?

I thought you were asking us to do all 10 every day. Damn!

you can do whatever you want and it doesn't even have to be something on the list :P and I mean doing something nice for someone, not just doing anything you want

Last Christmas, hubby and I donated some toys to a Children's charity (we did it to honour our son's memory)...

and even though I never saw the faces of the kids who received the gifts, it made me feel all warm inside knowing some kid's Christmas was going to be a little brighter because he/she had a present to unwrap on Christmas day :)

we plan to do the same thing this year...

I won't comment on the things I do to make the world a kinder place, however, I do want to comment on having it done to me! lol

I was going through the drive-thru at the local coffee shop. When I got to the window and went to pay, the cashier told me my purchase had been taken care of by the vehicle in front of me. I did not recognize the vehicle and could not see the person driving. I watched them wave as they drove away.

It did not make me feel good. In fact, it made me feel quite uneasy. It bothered me all day because I had no idea if I had a stalker or not. Plus it felt weird not to have paid.... kinda felt like stealing.

Anyway, I don't recommend anyone do the above, or number 5. It's kinda creepy.
