Only one letter from embassy for CR1 via NVC

Sorry about this as it's a duplicate post really but I put it in UK forum when really it applies to ALL STANDARD embassies and more people in this cr1 forum might know the answer

Just called the DOS in Washington about my cr1 visa and london..

the guy said 'everything is good and they are just waiting for an interview date to become available'

I said 'I thought I would be getting a document checklist first, and then I would send that back and then they would allocate an interview date and send another letter'

He said 'nope its just a letter with an interview date and a list of documents etc'

I reckon I posted before on VJ about this - with the CR1 visa done through the NVC rather than DCF...

and some people said 'one letter ' and some said 'a packet 3 type thing and then a packet 4 with the interview date'

and so I still don't know what to expect..

are there any CR1/IR1 people out there who can confirm what happens for our particular kind of visa ? If it's only one letter then that might chop weeks off !

thanks

alan

I think the letter they are referring to is indeed your packet 3 - could be that since NVC is reviewing your case (pardon my misinformation since I am DCF), they adjudicate the interview date and then just let you know about the doc's you need? It sounds pretty freeeeeking confusing. Can you call'em again?????

I went through the cr0-1 back in 2004--so things may have changed. The LAST pkg I received from NVC was the package that had the interview date on it. As well included was the required documents to bring to the interview. I do belive most of those documents have already been sent in. They did remind one that if you didnt mail in originals, that the originals were to be brought to the interview. As well there may have been info on the medical. That was in 2004, and things may have changed. I'm sure someone with updated knowledge will pop in

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

It was a guy that I talked to at DOS and he sounded a bit cavalier about stuff - a bit jokey ... I could call em again but I don't think they know ! I reckon only someone at the Embassy would know but I dont think they would discuss their systems if I called em..2.5 dollars a minute and the first x minutes are recorded junk...and then they would only confirm the case is pending i bet...

I reckon the only way to really know is for someone on VJ who has done a CR1/IR1 through NVC and a standard embassy like London , to actually say what happened...

Haha, you are right about the embassy 'pay' lines. I once spent $36 explaining to the person on the other end what an N-600 is.

Alan has indeed posted over in the UK forum, but seems like all the IR1/CR1 folks are DCFers so we're scratching our heads there.

C'mon VJers -- let's lend Alan a hand!

Alan,

Have you posted in the UK forum? Maybe someone there can give you more accurate information.

Good luck mate, L.

Yes tried that but only DCF bods so far....

Seems that a CR1 via NVC and a standard embassy is as rare as a WMD in Iraq

I didn't DCF, just the regular CR-1 route. The last package (can't recall how many there were) had my interview date. I received NO packages from Montreal. NVC sets the schedule (at least for Montreal), thus Montreal didn't even know I existed until NVC sets the schedule!!

That last pkg conatined: the interview date, reminder to bring original documents IF one hadn't already sent in originals, medical information etc etc. As stated, that was in 2004, so things could be different.

Ah so Montreal is not a 'standard embassy' like london...london sets their own interview dates and checks original birth certs etc so the procedure will be different...

thanks for trying to help anyway...top country Canada ... while our K1 was pending, I used to meet Carolyn in Toronto for weekends of passion..

When Candadian immigration asked me for the reason for my visit - I used to say 'I am here for a dirty weekend with an American lady '..

They have no sense of humour but immigration officials wordwide are not known for it...

haha ! alan

Montreal sets the dates for k1 (and maybe k3) but for cr-1/ir-1 NVC sets the schedule dates for Montreal. With regards to sending info, al the documents have already been sent, and NVC passes them to Montreal. Hopefully someone that has gone through the London consulate can help! or try the VJ search engine, try different words/phrases and eventually you should find some info.

Hey Alan,

very good question

Amazing that nobody who was recently (2007) going through a standard embassy still replied :o May be they are all busy celebrating their GC, hehe!..

I am also very curious to know what happens next, as my Case Complete should be right around the corner...

I looked at hhk3's timeline (going through Frankfurt) and it looks like there will be one letter and interview will be scheduled very quickly. BUT, that is Frankfurt, not London or Paris....

Oh, well... let us know what happens!

Rika

CR-1 Timeline

March'07 NOA1 date, case transferred to CSC

June'07 NOA2 per USCIS website!

Waiver I-751 timeline

July'09 Check cashed.

Jan'10 10 year GC received.

Just got back in the house and no mail - rats !

Yes all the evidence is pointing to 1 letter so its looking good even though no confirmation - there seems to be a pack of us doing CR1 via service center so I will be the first perhaps and I can let you all know..

My prediction is 4 weeks from leaving NVC which is around this Saturday or monday....

Actually this long wait is further evidence that its 1 letter as dropping a pckt3 in the mail, could have been done weeks ago..

I am busy disentangling all my financial affairs as lots of freedoms we take for granted in the UK are illegal in the US - (not just picnicking with a bottle of wine) eg financial spreadbetting/contracts for difference (shares)etc which is where i make my income. ... also adding old parts to a car is illegal in Germany and modifying a cars engine is illegal in Belgium..

We don't realise how free we are in the UK and most other countries have their citizens in bondage over something or other...

I had best be careful when I get there until I learn all the things which are banned...
