Ok, so we hired UPack after all the good recommendations from your folks - no problem, etc. Some friends had agreed to help us out with loading the trailer, and now they're all backing down. #$%& I understand people have things to do, but ####### offer to help and then say "no can't do". I kid you not people, I am seriously freaking out.

I guess we will have to actually PAY someone to load the darn thing, at least that way we'll be covered instead of praying for my 'friends' to come out and help  . I just wonder if moving companies allow you to hire just the labour or if they are going to get b!tchy because we didn't hire them for the whole move. Any ideas?

Len, in freak out mode.

I have friends like that.

SHE insisted she was coming with me to Montreal, I've been trying to call her to find out for sure before I bought the tickets. She just told me finally on Saturday she's not going. I'm now having to pay more for my train ticket...*sigh*

And of course you buy the stupid thing, then someone suddenly pipes up lastnight that they'll drive me.....UGHHHHH

Len I can't believe they backed out so early! At least you weren't sitting there waiting on them that day.

Hire some illegals. I understand they work hard and quite cheap. :jest:

Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensedregistered pharmacist". (because somebody gives a damn)

Might be the way to go. I haven't asked anyone to help me move in years. I just paid my daughter and her husband to cart a bunch of stuff to the dump from our garage. This way it also doesn't leave me obligated to 'help' anyone move.

They sound like my next door neighbours. All talk and full of empty promises. When push comes to shove, they fold up like a lawnchair. I have learned not to set myself up only to get let down.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

There are "illegals" in Canada. They're U.S. citizens who either skipped over the border or overstayed their visits... (I'm not kidding)

Len, try not to freak out. I always hate moving. It gives me a major case of PMS :) I helped my brother move 800 miles to a new job and guess what, four days before he was supposed to start, they fired him. By phone. To be more precise, the person who hired him was "reassigned" and the new boss wanted his own people. I was pissed, my other brother and mom were pissed and my brother, he was really pissed. Today, he's getting ready to move to a new job, where he's the boss, so I guess things have a way of working out. Len, since my brother is getting ready to move he's been looking into moving companies. As near as he figures he can hire the moving company for just for the labour. Len, have you posted notices in the job centre at the college where you teach. At least you'll, hopefully, get people who are actually interested in working. Remember, this too shall pass.

Len, sorry to hear about your flakey friends. Scour the local alternative paper for "cheap movers" or something like that and call them up. Usually the alternative papers have tons of moving listings. Just ask them about labour costs.
