K1: Any marriage location restrictions ?

Hi All,

My girlfriend and I plan to apply for a K1 Visa soon, but we've come across a bit of a discussion as to where to get married once I move over to California to be with her.

My question is, in regards to the K1 Visa, is there any restriction as to where you can get married? As in, do you have to get married within the precinct of where you intend to live... or can we (for example) get married in Nevada or Hawaii or Florida eventhough she resides in California?

yes you can get marry anywhere within the U.S

but some states require to get married in the state where you aply for your marriage license .

We did a civil ceremony at the old courthouse in Santa Ana. They give you a form that you can send in to get certified copies of your marriage certificate.

Exactly, check for the requirements in each state to see which one is more convenient. Review some forums about marriage certificates since some people have to wait a lot for getting them for the adjustment of status, you make want to be aware of that.

Also, check with the state to make sure you know about any waiting periods and blood tests. Several states still require you to have blood tests before you are married and some have a waiting period between when you apply for the marriage license and when it can be issued.

But you can get married ANYWHERE IN THE U.S.
