G-325A Question

My finance is filling out the G-325A and were stuck on one of the questions "All Other Names Used (Including names by previous marriages) if there is None put None" ( I am the petitioner and my girlfriend is from China ) When she got her first I.D. from the Government they used the wrong last character for her name (her name is 孙颖蕾 translating to SunYinglei, last,first,no middle name) but the officer who made the I.D. used a different last character and what is shown right now is 孙颖雷, they both translate into SunYinglei but were afraid that if we put "None" in the question field and they see the difference (shes getting it changed to the correct character) than they may think we lied, or we may get an RFE. Should we put None or add an attachment explaining? Considering they both translate into the same rominization I don't think it will be a problem but I wanted to make sure, thanks!

In that situation I would put "none" since it was an error and it isn't as if she actually goes or ever gone by that name. A letter of explanation would be a good idea and support your document if they notice a difference.

Yes, I would write none and "see attached". Provide an attachment referring to the question by number, using the explanation you gave in your post. Of course, make sure all her ID is currently correct. They'll understand. There may be as many as four different characters that would transliterate to the same pinyin.

I disagree. My fiancee's baptismal certificate ( a document required by the US consulate during the interview process for K1) - had her name misspelled - she didn't disclose that - she got a corrected certificate issued and submitted that with her documents at the time of the interview (that's what a couple of her friends had done also in Colombia).

The rationale - that's not a name she used - it was an error by the issuer of that certificate and the name was never officially spelled like that in any of her school, college, employment etc.- hence she just got it corrected on the certificate needed for her documentation but didn't say that she had used 'another' name. Sorry if I wasn't clear...I meant to include an attachment if the document isn't corrected in time for when they need it or decide to just include an explanation. If they submit a document that is correct, then there would be no reason for an attachment to explain something that isn't incorrect! LOL
