I'm a U.S. citizen and I plan on attending the interview in Montreal with my Canadian fiancee. I don't currently have a passport, do I need one to enter the Embassy (Consulate)?

I just received an answer from Montreal through email. It wasn't very helpful.......they said that my fiancee needs identification to get in and a passport would be better. A little vague if you ask me. I was expecting a definate yes or no answer about having a passport. I guess my fiance should get a passport just in case. I have to admit they did respond promptly which was very nice.
