The "The Black Guy" from the Cairo Embassy said 3 weeks ago that we would recieve my fiance's passport. It has been 5 weeks now, so how long does this processing usually take. I don't understand why they would say 3 weeks when infact it takes longer. Anyone know what is happening?

Waiting 4 ever

The A/P is a long and extremely frustrating process. This guy also told my husband would be 1-2 months...is now 4 months...

The DOS will tell you that he should have never given you this timeline as it usally takes around 6-7 months...Just hang in there with the rest of us on A/P as we do try our very best to help each other. Remember if you need any support this is the best place to find it...here on VJ...

Good luck,

Jeanne (F)

well, these are very hard questions .. and the answers are even much harder coz

1- how long does this processing usually take ? nobody knows

2- why they would say 3 weeks when infact it takes longer ? foolishness / dishonest / trick / lie / ect....

3- Anyone know what is happening? what's happening is a DISASTER

Oh.....that little word "AP" still makes me want to vomit! AP is one of those mysterious little things that will definately make you want to pull your hair out, vomit, lose weight, gain weight or make your body have strange mysterious illnesses! Cairo is notorious for saying "oh, you will have your visa in X amount of time" and then nothing. Seems almost everyone going through a middle eastern country has the unfortunatly experiance of having to go through some sort of AP. :ranting: Hope you hear something soon! Best of luck to you!

maybe they figured out that the 1-2 months became a very old trick after everybody already heard about it .. so now they are trying to use some new tricks .

I really don't think they're trying to "trick" anyone. I think they should stop giving answers when asked how long it will take. They should probably just tell ppl that AP and security checks take an unspecified amount of time and vary case by case. Not sure if this kind of honesty would be appreciated though.

I wanted to add that I know how it is to be stuck in AP/security checks. It's hard to take. However, I can't say that I blame the consulate or the US gov't for wanting to be thorough.

I think it is one thing to be careful and another when your case sits at dhl for a month and a half waiting to get to were it is going to be investigated. I am sure the amount of time they are actually working on the cases is very limited and the amount of time in AP due to an inefficient system is great. I also think they need to apply thier "security checks " across the board, not just single out random people to make there lives hell and let others fly through with little consideration.

No kidding. Mine hasn't left the dhl office in over 40 days which tells me they've done jack squat with it. Maybe they'll send it out sometime next month, though I doubt it since it will be Ramadan. Maybe sometime in November they'll remember that my case is sitting in the dhl desk at the embassy and they'll then send it off to wherever the heck they send it off to.

And as for the standard "you are in ap processing blah blah blah" they could at least give a direct answer that gives more info such as "we have already done such and such and are now waiting for this and that". Heck don't even tell me specifics if you think that will ruin the big secret but at least tell me that it was touched at some point after my husband left the building!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh I can't blame them either and if I thought for one second they were actually working on my case I wouldn't be complaining but 1) it hasn't even left the dhl desk (i checked the tracking number) and 2) it's never even gone to DOS.

the truth is i haven't even asked him how long will it take .. he just volunteered to give me the time frame 1-2 months .

we haven't asked them at the DOS either when they volunteered to give another time frame 6-12 months .

as you don't have to worry about them being honest anymore coz after the interview , you will never any time frame from them anymore .

so when CONOF tells you at your interview that it will take 1-2 months and the next day after the interviw you send an email to the same embassy they tell you that they can't give a time frame for the AP .. then you start to think , ohhhh right it was not a trick , it just makes me sick .

ok doodle i have just seen your question about the DHL on the other topic .. yes our case has a movement on the DHL site as that was back in June .. when we called the DHL they said this has nothing to do withthe case moving or shipping .. they said it's just an internal automatic system update .

which i don't believe to be true .. methink it has something to do with the field investigation !!!
