With the major scandals Mrs Scandal has been involved in, for you to latch onto this as some sort of a thing that "levels the playing field" with Fred it only shows how desperate you are. As I said, this kind of thing doesn't advance legitimate political debate one iota...although, as I also said, I am not convinced yet that the US presidential election is a political event.

There hasn't been any meaningful political debate in the run-up to elections as long as I can remember. It's always reduced to empty sound bites and to slinging that ole' mud like there's no tomorrow. I wish people would care about actual debates again.

I guess the media have an excuse, they are paid to provide entertainment, and it seems political mud slinging is entertaining. However, I did think that maybe, on a message board, it might be possible to rise above this...at least a little.

Given what we saw in 2004 - the 'actors' are usually a bit better. Bush waiting for instructions on his in-ear mike and looking around desperately for his cue card got torn to pieces by Kerry. Even so - the standard of debate was laughable. Given Bush's performance its honestly amazing to me that people would vote for the guy.

If this is an electable candidate - I think that's really quite sad.

I simply don't agree that giving legal advice as part of your contractual job obligations is some kind of sell out to the victims of Lockerbie. If he had done something underhanded, or against the rules, this would be something, but he didn't, and it's not.

I don't think anyone is interested in facts though, just trying to find some nice dirty mud.

More to the point, just because one person thinks it's appropriate to post ever more extreme examples of the 'unsuitability' of one particular candidate, is no reason to follow suit. Argue on the merits and policies not character flaws and personality.

Mind you, a head of state shouldn't be an electable post anyway, just a figure head, why not install an American Monarchy?
