and Saywhat, if you ever find yourself in the unfortunate position of being in London, I don't think that the fish and chips from 'Rock and Sole Plaice' in Covent Garden, or 'Fryer's delight' on Theobalds Road - with fish straight from the docks that morning - would dissappoint even you!!

Hey I didn't say anything against London fish and chips - it's Lancashire where I am imprisoned now that is the problem. I only found one fish and chip shop that isn't Chinese and it's Greek and theirs smell of kebabs! My best fish shop in Yorkshire is Greek but they do it the traditional way and theirs is scrumptious. We have been here since February and drive around with palid grey faces enhancing our carbon snow-shoe prints trying to hunt down a 'beef dripping' fish 'ole... no luck so far !

We give notice soon on this rented gastronomic desert so prob will soon be solved. I intend to catch my own in Tampa Florida (next to the nuclear reactor) and barby em in the garden or fry em in plain batter with NO BREAD CRUMBS THEY ARE HORRIBLE....

That'll teach you for moving to the land of pies!

I've lived in London for the past four years and before that I was three years in Cambridge; in both places I never found a chippy that I was truly happy with. I think, just as nothing can normally beat your Mother's Sunday roast, we're preconditioned to love the chippy we grew up with. I originally come from Hartlepool and as far as I'm concerned nowhere can beat my local chip store; it's always my first point of call when I visit.

Most places in London, in my very biased opinion, were either bad kebab stores offering a strangely yellowed plate of fish and chips or they were more gastropub-like, a la the Sea Cow in Clapham High St. I did find an okay place near Waterloo that's useful if you're after something before an evening of culture at the South Bank but I'm yet to find a London chippy that serves 'scraps' and I can’t seriously be expected to give my heart to a chippy that doesn’t serve ‘scraps’. ;)

Still, with the missus now back in the US, I'll be heading back north while I wait for this visa business to end. The pain of being separated will be eased somewhat by being near my second love - Oxford Road’s Fish and Chips.

It's a very useful, expressive and all-encompassing word. Shame there aren't more like them.

hehe A new leaf eh? :P I dunno, I'm not expecting the hubby to find one of those leaves anytime soon lol I've been reminded many times "you can take the bastart ootae Paisley, but ye cannae take Paisley ootae the bastart" lol However! I will say his swearing has become amazingly creative now that our 2 year old is repeating everything he says and telling daddy when he's said a bad word. He's started yelling "Chicken nugget!" when he's angry - on the plus side I'm fairly sure our kids will grow up to have an anti fast food complex lol

LMAO.

When I began to read the first post, I was like "what is this arsehole talking about?" After a couple of sentences I realised this was classic humour. I nearly fell off my chair laughing when I read that you should say you were late for work because you were having a #######!!!

It kinda reminds me of that Python sketch where they had a translation book and depicted a foreigner with it going into a newsagent to buy a pack of cigarettes. Refering to the translation book he calmly asks, "May I fondle your buttocks?".

I'm not far from paisley...I know it and it's colourful language well. Nick finds some of my expressions amusing. "Awa an boil yer heed" and "ho bawbag!" to get someones attention are both ones I use along with repeated use of the words "#######" and "sh!te" which I find can be used in many ways and many situations!

Am glad this thread poses amusement to some - I thought maybe I just had a weird sense of humour

Debz - you're obviously toning things down around me!! Don't tell me you're going to be witness to my legal wedding and when asked "speak now or forever hold your peace" (imagine being said by Elvis-alike in afore-mentioned Elvis' southern drawl) you suffer a bout of Tourette's...
