Hi Guys....

Quick question: Do you still need to bring a passport along with your Green Card to apply for SSN at the local office?

I'm a bit confused with the explanation given on the SSA's website.

Thanks so much for your help!

Angelique

Quick question: Do you still need to bring a passport along with your Green Card to apply for SSN at the local office?

I'm a bit confused with the explanation given on the SSA's website.

If this for an original SSN and you have the actual I-551 card and birth certificate (BC), then you don't need your passport. If you don't have your BC, then take the passport. For a replacement SSN card, all you need is the I-551 card.

You only need the passport when you have an I-551 stamp or MRIV and using it for proof of identity and/or work authorization.
