Income tax return

Jim's given me his income tax return. I'm wondering do I photo copy it, or do they keep the original?

I was trying not to ask anything about all this, sorry

Photocopy to provide to them but have original available for comparison in case they ask for it. They won't keep the original but might want to see it.

I have the copies from HR Block, they were efiled.....is that what they want??

Difficult for me to understand how anyone can have the original tax returns as you should have filed them and IRS doesn't give them back.

Best is to get tax transcripts from IRS if you e filed.

Actually tax transcripts are better and more valid no matter how you filed.

Even though they were efiled they should have given Jim a printed copy of the actual 1040 (I'm assuming that is what you mean when you say he sent you the original)? What they actually want is the 1040 and all slips from the employer (from my understanding).

Transcripts are good, but you have your interview on Wednesday - however! if you don't have copies of the employer slips and you think you would like to get transcripts you can always call the IRS and ask them to fax you copies of the transcript - just for reference it's about 9 faxed pages per return year.

From the I-864:

If you provide a photocopy of your tax return(s), you must include a copy of each and every Form W-2 and Form 1099 that relates to your return(s). Do not include copies of these Forms if you provide an IRS transcript of your return(s) rather than a photocopy.

I vaguely remember Bee giving me the photocopy of whatever he had e-filed as proof of income. (I was so stressed out I didn't understand which tax thing he'd given me... yeah ) Somehow the Vancouver consulate accepted that, though we did have the bank and employer letters as well.

Okay....I got a 1040 + W2 + bank letter and statements + letter from employer.

My packet 3 didn't say anything about a tax return anyway, only if you were self employed. It's just everyone seems to be taking them.

Yeah I'm alright now, give me a few minutes to freak about something else.
