You know, the left has always tried to paint the right with the intolerance brush. But judging by the comments I see from that side makes me realize that it's the left that has a lock on intolerance. Anyone that has a differing opinion is put down and made to look like the bad guy. I find your broad generalizations and outright smearing of people that have differing opinions to be very distasteful and insulting. Sure I poke fun at specific candidates but it seems your side can't get by without overt smearing of entire groups of people that disagree with you.

Gary, what's disturbing is that many people here on VJ, including yourself believe that illegal immigration is a crime or should be a crime, when it isn't, and in spite of the leading Republican candidate states that it isn't. Bush doesn't share your view. Why? I just don't understand your logic on that. Granted, I understand it to the point that you believe it as unfair (illegals being here without going through the proper immigration channels), but there are a lot of things going on in this country that is unfair that you'd barely bat an eye about.

Then why have immigration laws at all? If we grant 20 million people a pass why not just throw the gates open? You just don't see what the logical end to your line of reasoning is. Why would you find it disturbing that I want our laws followed? Why would you find it disturbing that I don't like the idea of that many people coming here without permission and then make demands of us? Just because we allowed it to happen in the past is no reason to continue to make that error. I have shown that a large number of the illegals did commit a crime when they came in without inspection. That is a crime without any argument. Then there is all the related crime that goes along with it. The ID theft, the tax evasion. The working without EAD. It goes on and on. So because the act of being here without permission isn't a "crime" per se does not mean that it is without crime at all. Yet those of us that think their presence here is wrong and want the laws of the land obeyed are painted as racists. How fair is that? Then there are the far left nuts that make comments like we want to get a gun when we see an illegal. Truly insulting.

Giuliani, a former prosecutor is saying he doesn't think illegal immigration should be a crime. Why not look at what he's saying is the solution?

I don't agree with him at all on that point. Can't I have my beliefs of what is right and wrong? I don't need the backing of someone else to have my own opinion. Illegals need to leave. Not because of racism but because their being here in the first place is wrong.

Gary, do you not give him any legal credibility in terms of his opinion on this matter? I'm not saying you must agree with him, but at least acknowledge that his opinion is based on legal rationale vs. your opinion that is based on your emotional feelings about illegal immigrants. That's the difference.

This is the pertinant point. It's not about right or wrong in his mind, it's about practicallity. I know some of you think you have the answers to this problem, but if the politicians on the right don't think there is an easy solution, then I think you have to wonder if your solutions are practical.
