The difference being?
People have a choice to smoke and/or drink. They are aware of the risks involved. No, I don't smoke. But I do like my beer, thank you very much. A nice whiskey on the rocks from time to time pleases me as well. It's not like anyone is holding a gun to my head or a sword to my throat making me consume the beer or whiskey. If that kills me, then I killed myself with it. By my own free choice. That's the essential difference.

You see, the people that died at hands of those fcukers on 9/11 didn't exactly choose to be killed that day.

Car accidents, on the other hand, are just that: accidents. 9/11 wasn't an accident, in case you haven't gotten the memo yet.

But sure, why bother?

Do we have choices?

Absolutely! As I said, despite the tobacco industry "waging their war" on me (as you would have it), I choose not to smoke. I did in the past and decided that it would be a poor choice to continue the use of the product once my wife and I decided to have our first child. So I discontinued the use of tobacco products. I exercised my right to choose when I picked up smoking and I exercised my right to choose when I put them down. Choices all over.

I also choose not to be bombarded with ads. I watch very little TV, change stations to cut through the ads whenever I can, etc. I don't care much for them. Some ads are actually quite entertaining, though. Geico comes to mind. And no, I don't carry Geico insurance despite their clever ad campaigns. I chose a different carrier that offers a better and more competitive product.

Are we not being programmed?

Nope.

Cars accidents kill more people in a week then the terrorists killed on 9/11. So why not stop cars?

For that matter:

Cig. corprations kill more people then terrorists.

Alcohol kills more people then terrorists.

Is anyone stoping the corporate agenda? Corporations lobby to make laws that kill more people than all these religious organizations. The difference being?

Try to distract all you want but Islamic terrorists win the prize. If the prize is for the largest body count. I choose not to smoke but the people in the planes and buildings had no choice but to die on 9/11. Shame on you.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Anyone who believes that there is only one way to salvation, nirvana, heaven, whatever, is dangerous.

As a Christian, I certainly wouldn't agree with that part, after all, Jesus himself said that he is the only way to the Father. Otoh, I reject all attempts to force people to confess Christianity, or to live as Christians whether or not they believe. That is entirely against the spirit of Jesus' teachings. Religion with a capital "R" certainly can be used for evil, but so can Political Power. Nazism and Communism, for example, were both explicitly anti-Christian and anti- organized relgion, but were responsible for the murders of scores of millions. I think the greatest danger is when captial "R" Religion and capital "P" Political Power are in bed with each other, and are essentially one thing, such as the concept of “al-Islam wal dawla”

I agree with u! and glad to know u r a Christian! -Tam

Isn't this how people like George W. Bush get elected?

So, what is really the difference between Sharia Law and Xian Law? They both want to impose religious laws upon ALL citizens.....

*rolls eyes*

Is that the most intelligent response you could come up with? Heaven forbid I make an informed and valid comparison....

Do you disagree that certain Christian groups - just like certain Muslim groups - want to have laws that are based on/reflect their own religious views?

That's the key, I think, the word "certain". "Islam: a Plan for World Domination" is as ridiculous a headline as "Christianity: a Plan for World Domination". It's misleading and contributes to the already abundant prejudice that exists. The headline should read, "Islamic Fundamentalists have a Plan for World Domination." Some might argue that I'm splitting hairs, but I think the distinction is important. I don't think many people would disagree that radical groups with immoral agendas exist, but it's the constant blurring of the lines between moderates and extremists that I object to.

Agreed. If Islam (i.e. 1 billion + people) really had a plan for world domination - they'd have rather better success IMO.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Take South Korea for example. The US 'liberated' that country decades ago - and still maintains strong political ties with it. Nevertheless there is a notable degree of resentment towards the US among its citizenry.

Perhaps we should pull all of our troops out of there, and leave them to fend for themselves when North Korea decides to take over ;)

I found that it was mostly the younger generation of ignorant Korean college kids that resents the US. The old timers that experienced the Korean War have a much better opinion of the US than the new generation does.

Hence why the US needs to stop wasting their time, money and lives on other nations. To be honest ###### them. No one appreciates the US anymore. Almost like knowing someone who has no respect for you. No matter what you do for them or give them; they will still criticize you and abuse your generosity. Time the US realizes that.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I wonder why that is...

Something to do with the political climate between 2000 and the present.
