I wonder if my lack of being able to provide a solution to 'reducing' crime and poverty is because I see those issues are rather more complex than you do (certainly when you consider the other statement - that destroying cities is a viable plan - that's either the product of gross ignorance or crushing stupidity). And yet - no government has been able to entirely stamp out poverty (yes...even in Australia) so what profound solution should I be suggesting to fix a problem that no government has been able to conclusively solve...

sure thing..

BTW - what was your 'definitive' solution to that particular problem? Did you yourself have one?

Nice generalization. Seems to be a different story when you say it as you do apply wit to your responses and make sure, much like a politician, there is never a definitive answer.

Not that the above made any grammatical sense, but it still doesn't answer the question as to what your definitive answer is.

No - I don't have a 'definitive' solution to that problem. But again, I honestly wonder who does...

This is one of those great example I am talking about. Alex+R used to do the same ######. That is look for something else to pick on. Much like having a debate with someone who then responds with a HAHA 24818BP~The-Simpsons-Nelson-Haha-Posters.jpg your zipper is undone; all while avoiding the topic.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Show me where I 'avoided' the topic (though quite what that is at this point eludes me ). As I said:

Do you have a 'definitive' solution? Its a simple yes or no question...

Re: Iraq and A/Q

As far as Iraq goes - I have said numerous times that I see the available options right now as rather limited. That we have arrived at this point because of a fundamentally flawed policy is one thing - and in fact its one of the reason why I was opposed to this thing from the start - I don't think that is any secret. That said - I don't believe the US can pull out of Iraq until some semblance of stability is achieved. That said, 'stability' isn't reliant purely on military involvement, rather it acts as a bandaid on an open wound. Believe it or not I actually agree more or less with the General and the President that a sudden withdrawal is out of the question - but I do think that the key to ending the war relies on developments off of the battlefield.

As to what I think we should do to end the threat of Al Qaeda - well that's rather more complicated. Yet I don't think its unreasonable to suggest that dealing with a diffuse, international terrorist organisation with roots and influence in many countries requires a primarily political solution to reduce their influence, rather than blowing up entire cities and provoking a violent outcry.

If you really think Hiroshima-ing a city will reduce the influence of Al-Qaeda, and prevent acts terrorism being perpetrated - you're welcome to your opinion. Still... I remember the last time I threw a rock at a wasp's nest...

Actually if you want to get technical - I criticised 'your' solution, not 'every' solution ;)

What problem do you have with the US saying to the world anyone dare touch our kids and there will be harsh consequences. You seem to have a huge complex with that..

For once you gave a detailed opinion.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

It would be rather interesting to see a couple special forces teams go into Iran and use these very same tactics on them. Every time a IED is set off in Iraq, one follows on the streets of Tehran. I wonder if they would get the hint.

Yeah.... Ahmadinejad would get up on a podium, point to the smoking crater and twisted bodies and say that everything he's been telling his people is right. And with the evidence of their eyes why would they have reason to disbelieve him?

Awwww but the opposite could also occur, the common folk just might blame him.

Not likely - otherwise we would see it happening in Palestine.

The Palestinian government is largely to blame for what's happening there today.

In the late 90's the Palestinian economy was booming -- much more so than the

Israeli economy. Before the second Intifada started, 150,000 Palestinians worked

in Israel, commuting daily from the West Bank and Gaza, and earning wages

considerably higher than those paid by the Palestinian Authority. The unemployment

rate was a low 10%. The per capita income was $2,000 -- the highest per capita

income in the (non-oil) Arab world.

However, that wasn't good enough for them, so they decided to start blowing stuff up.

The result? Today, 74 percent of the Palestinians are living below the poverty line.

Unemployment reached the unprecedented level of 60% in Gaza and 44% in the

West Bank. Residents are forced to depend on the UN for basic food supplies,

without running water and electricity.

Is anyone blaming Hamas? Nooooo - they are blaming Israel instead.

I have a problem with your definition of 'harsh consequences' - that the wholesale and wanton destruction of an entire city is a justifiable tactic.

Not religion per se...just Fundamentalism and the belief in absolutes (no one else is allowed to believe differently)...it's sort of reactionary to Relativism.

On this one, I beg to differ. Organised religion is stuffed with dangerous dogma and leaders who are far more interested in power and money than creed. I know I am making a sweeping generalisation, but this is my view.

Faith, belief in a higher power, whatever you want to call it, carry on.

Anyone who believes that there is only one way to salvation, nirvana, heaven, whatever, is dangerous. So yes, dogmatism is a threat, but dogma in of itself isn't necessarily dangerous. For example, believing the murder is wrong could be considered a moral truth, but even with such an obvious truth, there are circumstances when it is the lesser of two evils.

I would change this only slightly. I don't think that a belief that there is but one road to salvation (et al) is by itself a bad thing. Many good people believe this. But belief that all others must follow suit is deadly, and foolish. Death is certain, a particular salvation is still up in the air (pun intended).

Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensedregistered pharmacist". (because somebody gives a damn)
