Isn't it possible to submit 'spoiled' ballots in order to express your disgust with the caliber of candidates in the US?

Sure, you can submit a blank ballot.

Or you can "write in" Bart Simpson.

Or VJ Troll. ;) But no one cares & it doesn't mean anything.

Really? My understanding (from the UK electoral system) was that there is implicit understanding that 'spoiled' ballots often do express disatisfaction, not just people making mistakes. After all, the spoiled ballots are counted and announced.

Calling what you did(said) low class is not an insiult AT you, no.

C'mon dev - sure it is. As are the frequent digs at the intelligence of anyone who votes GOP.

Ironic that snobbery isn't a quality associated with being low class. Perhaps it should be.

He won't even debate his points using her real name. That is low class.

My intelligance was most deffo insulted this week, search Gary's posts. I choose not to do it but rather insult the actions of someone. Or debate their points.

Nope. Write ins never get mentioned in the news.

But they included counted in the total ballots cast metric.

And if a large % of total ballots cast went to a fictional write-in, you bet it'll show up on the news.

Sure, but I'd imagine it would have to be a LOT.

Gary, I have a suspecting hunch that no matter what Democrat gets the nomination, you will have a long list of labels to throw at them, with the bread and butter ones such as scandal, hypocrite and flip-flopper. Do you seriously believe that labels really mean anything with regard to politicians? In other words, pick any candidate, from either party and the case could be made that those labels would fit to more or lesser a degree.

This is the old strategy that I think Karl Rove used successfully - brand your opponent with a negative label along with an anecdotal situation to support that label.

At least be intellectually honest and concede that NO candidate in the race is squeaky clean or free from any controversy.

Sure I will admit that, everyone is human and all of them have flaws. But Mrs Scandal is the worst of the worst and I will point out every new scandal that comes up. Just doing that should get me the large hearts under my avatar in no time.

Do you think she is inherently flawed? For example, I think Dubya is a sincere guy, but he's got some real personality defects that I think have led to his failure as President, aside from his policies. His insistence on loyalty to his presidency was his biggest character flaw.

So what do you think is Hillary's biggest character flaw?

Oh were do I begin? I guess the biggest flaw is that she is only concerned for herself and what will advance her own goals. I don't think she has any principals at all. She is a control freak and when crossed can be very dangerous.(literally) I don't think honesty is something that she is comfortable with either. In short I trust her as far as I could throw an elephant.

I'm more Democrat than I am Republican, but I agree with that. If Hillary ends up the Democrat candidate, I'll vote for someone (ANYone) else.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

I do believe that if you have suffrage, you should use your vote, even if you do have to 'spoil' the ballot. That is why this point is important to me as I don't see myself agreeing with any presidential candidate for the forseeable future. ;)

Right, but it's still better than not voting at all. JMHO.

Yup. I wonder how many libs on VJ won't even vote but will still complain?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

could it be some of those ballots are from people not bright enough to figure out how to fill out a ballot?

That's because too many people prefer to play a loaded game, rather than take it on themselves to change the rules.

If there were enough ruined ballots - you can bet it would appear on the news, especially if it results in a hung parliament.
