Fred Thompson "Doesn't Know The Details" Of Bush's Social Security Plan, But He's For It

Bush's plan ain't gonna happen - not now and not later. But it arguably helped him get elected.

That's all Fred is looking for. Why would he bother with the details of a plan that ain't gonna materialize?

My worry is they keep messing with social security. Its not like I need the miserable $1200 a month but they are supposed to be protecting the elderly and screwing with social security doesn't do that. I just don't want to be 75 and eating dog food to survive.

Force Congress to use social security for retirement instead of the millions they will receive in thier own retirement that they approved for themselves

But seriously, what else is there except raising SS taxes? In fact, they don't even have to raise them -

they can keep them at the same level and simply get rid of the $97,500 cap.

The cap is ridiculous. Why have a cap at all? Why shouldn't SS dollars be levied on every dollar earned?

Because that is how the legislation was purchased. Obviously by those that benefit greatly from the cap. ;)

So that people who make more than $97,500 would pay less taxes - isn't that obvious? :P

I personally am not looking forward to any tax increases, but Social Security is important.

But, in truth, the economy WAS great in the 1990s, and it was in large part because of Bill Clinton (I did not like his economic policy, but he was really key in keeping the economy growing).

Also, have worked within state government, there is SOOOOO much waste, and so much spent in other areas (aid and weapons to the middle east) that I have yet to see why the government can't keep their hands out of SS. lcinton si very right on this issue.

Mrs Scandal doesn't have a plan. Her head is in the sand (or maybe someplace not that pleasent) on Social Security.

HILLARY ON SOCIAL SECURITY

From NBC's Andy Merten and Mark Murray

After hitting the campaign trail in New Hampshire and Iowa with her husband over the Labor Day weekend, Hillary Clinton returned to Washington today addressing the Alliance for Retired Americans today. She stuck mostly to her standard stump speech after taking stage and finding the podium rushed by enthusiastic senior citizens wielding digital cameras. “I see a lot of fellow baby boomers, and we’re all thinking about the problems we’ll confront,” Clinton said.

She focused heavily on the issues of Medicare and Social Security, saying, “Now you don’t have to worry –- when I’m president, privatization is off the table." Clinton added that reducing benefits and raising the retirement age is not the answer. “We need to get back to the fiscal responsibility that we had in the 1990s,” she added. (If reducing benefits or raising the retirement age isn't the answer to making the system solvent, then what is -- raising taxes?)

While Clinton made a point to draw upon nostalgic pictures of the time the former President Clinton spent in office, she only mentioned him directly once. “When my husband left office, we had a secure Social Security system until 2055, and then, all of a sudden, the Bush Administration took us back into deficits.”

Wait a second: Is that right? A 2001 Social Security Board of Trustees report said the program would remain solvent until 2038, not 2055. The Clinton campaign has yet to respond to messages First Read left seeking comment.
