Another way is buy a tin of black beans, and cook it with plain rice.

Yes, but that has a completely different set of flavours than the method I suggested (which contains salt already) or doing it from scratch (actually cooking the dry beans and rice--IMO, this one tastes best, but you need to soak the beans overnight first).

Yes, but that has a completely different set of flavours than the method I suggested (which contains salt already) or doing it from scratch (actually cooking the dry beans and rice--IMO, this one tastes best, but you need to soak the beans overnight first).

The cupboard contains a packet of plain longgrain rice (I think!) and a packet of arborio rice for risotto and a box of Goya black beans and rice... I think we'll have the plain rice too and then the question becomes should we open the bagged salad DH just bought, or should we have frozen green beans or broccoli/cauliflower?

well, not that you're going to take my advice... <_< , but I'd go for salad in this case. :)
