Insurance for my fiancé when he gets here?

Keep in mind, no insurance doesn't necessarily mean "no health care." Most school health clinics are available to the public (as well as students without insurance coverage) but for a fee. And most communities have a clinic that charge for services based on income. Which you can easily prove with a statement from finacial aid (your fincial aid award letter) or pay-stub.

If you do end up with a medical bill of a couple thousand, you can usually call the provider and set it up on a payment plan. If your young, healthy with no pre-existing conditions and not prone to doing stupid risky stuff, your unlikely to end up in a situation where you will run up very expensive bills.

Until you end up in the ER with a $3,000 kidney stone.

Good luck spending the next half of your life paying off any sort of medical bills.

Most rx medications here will cost upwards of $100. My (single) anti-depressant is $900 per month without insurance. So, yeah, if you're one of the magical minority that never has any medical problems...thank god and buy a lottery ticket.

How many 20 somethings are going to get a kidney stone? Even then, $3,000 is not much. You can easily spend more than that in insurance per year. Especially if you want a low deductible.

Majority of young people tend not to have health problems, and if they do, its likely to be an injury rather than an ailment of some kind.

Yeah, I most definitely don't want to go without any insurance for us, even if I have to put it on my school bills through my school insurance. But all of that really depends on when he gets here and when we get married. I have just a little over a year left so HOPEFULLY I will be spending that money on him cause that means he'll be here and I'll have to pay the $1040 for 3 months of insurance :o That's how much OSU would charge for one quarter for the student (ie, me) and the spouse. Holy moley. He better be getting himself a job real quick! We're gonna be poor for the rest of our lives considering his debt(~$8k), my school loans (don't even want to think about how much that is!) and paying for his AOS!

You should look at it this way. You will pay $4000 per year in insurance, whats the likely hood that you will actually have medical bills that will cost more than $4000? You would be paying the deducible too.

If you think thats expensive insurance, all I can say is don't have kids anytime soon (Or get a job somewhere with a really good health plan). :P

Look Kayleigh+Kyle, I´been like you few months ago, and still I´ve those thinks, about if when i get there I´ll find a job (here I´ve studied like 2 kinds of college studies of the US, for 4 years), but will they confirm my Spanish studies to the US???, I still don´t know, I´ve asking around here but they told me I´ll have to ask there, in the US, here they don´t know so much about their politics...; but what should I do leave all this?. No, I don´t want to, if I´ve to study again there, I will, why not?, at least in the US are better pay jobs than here in Spain where the most (hardly 80%) of jobs pay you 1000€, no matter what you´ve studied (and you should think that rent a little, little house here is no less than 600-700€ monthly), so.... try it, do it!!.

Yes the first, second and maybe third years will be tough, very tough, but after then, you and your husband will have both a job, and then you (we, and all people here) will have your reward right???

look for a job a Gordon Food Service, they have several stores in Columbus. They have insurance for part time employees as long as you work enough to cover the premiums. I was self employed and my insurance company would not add my wife until she lived in the U.S. for one year so I took a part time job there so I could get coverage but a month later I started a job at Ohio State University and dropped it. Stop by my office in room 059 Howlett Hall and I will see if I can find the premium information.

I've looked into this issue as well. There are some plans available that you can purchase for a single year. The one I was looking at pays 80% of medical bills after a $250 deductible. It costs somewhere around $600-$700 to buy it.

Check with your school to see if getting married would allow you a window to get their insurance for you and him. GOOD LUCK.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm a student and currently covered by my parent's health insurance, but once I'm married I'll have to find some of my own. I'm planning on getting my university's health insurance plan, which averages out to about $57/month for just me. If I add my fiance (husband) to it, it goes up to a whopping $350 a month. I've read on here where people have taken out immigrant health insurace which is actually pretty reasonable, I think the one I was interested in was about $90/month, but it would just be for the fiance/husband. The only problem with this plan for us was that my fiance has a pre-existing condition of asthma and the insurance won't cover anything that has to do with it.

Maybe that would work for you, too.
