I have a few questions, and here is my scenario:

  • K1 visa holder.
  • Moved to the US 4 days ago.
  • Got married (civil) in court 2 days ago.

when to apply for Name change of my wife

when to apply for AOS

when to apply for EAD

when to apply for Travel Docs

when to apply for SSN

Having read here on VJ, and keeping in mind how some docs are dependent on others, and the time it takes for them to arrive, I was wondering if there is a sequence/order to follow given the my scenario.

All help is highly appreciated.

Apply for SSN withing 75 days of entry.

For K-1 apply for AOS, EAD, and AP together, the flat fee for all them is $1010 (Apply using married name)

In most states the name change happens at the time of marriage, married name is specified on the marriage license.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

To concur, the last isn't universal. To get our marriage license they only asked for our names as they were and identification. If we ever need to search the records, they ask for my maiden name or his last name.

She's the USC [and I moved here]. I ask this question because on the forms that I'll submit very soon (I-485, I-765, I-131), where ever they ask her name, will I be putting her married name?

fyi: We have not yet had her name change docs submitted-- just because we are not sure how this will affect the AOS submission with a different name.

Should we wait to have her name change done after we have submitted for AOS, EAD, AP, etc. or first get the name change and then submit for AOS, EAD, AP, etc..

If I wait, ofcourse, my EAD will only take that much longer.

???

You're not changing your name, right? So there's no issue that your green card would be in a different name from your passport or other documentation? I'd go ahead and submit your documents with whatever name she plans to use, and get the rest of the stuff changed as it happens. It's your petition, really, not hers.

They'll have the continuity they need from the NOA2 from the I-129F (birthdate, SSN, etc) to establish that you did marry the person who petitioned for you. That's pretty much all the USC does in this process aside from the financial support.
