I'm calling my congess(wo)men and reps.

I suggest everyone do the same.

If it's just a matter of allocating funding then maybe they can make a swift change in, err, 2010?

It's a joke. I'm calling anyway.

Its a catch 22, they can hire the people to process the forms when they have the money but Congress has denied them more funds to hire the people.

I thought the reason for the fee increase is for USCIS not to depend on money from congress? Weren't the much increased fees supposed to go to hiring more people and improving their system?

lets get real we are talking about the federal government here they cant find their a*s with both hands all they cand do is offer excuses. i am sure the federal government is pissing awaythe fee increases on something else. you look up the word inefficency in the dictionary and it say see federal government also.

USCIS really should've anticipated the number of people beating the fee increases and perhaps hired more people to handle the workload. Maybe they don't have the money to do that, but with the semi-truck full of applications rotting away in Chicago, you'd think they'd think twice about not following through with their promises.

But oh wait, that's bureaucracy for you.

I'm just hoping that they can get somewhat caught up by next year, but that 2010 prediction doesn't sound too far off the mark...

I wonder whether applications that are currently with an adjudicator (for example, at CSC) will also be delayed? I am not sure how the process flow works, but do they have a set of people that handle the initial processing and then pass it off to the adjudicators? Or do the same set of people accept the application, process it, and adjudicate it?

I am in a weird situation (As I am sure others are too)- I filed I-485 a few months ago but decided to file for EAD and AP before the fee increase...so I don't know which one will come first due to this backlog! Just gotta sit and wait!

I will let you know what my contact says. She was going to call around a find out how existing applications were being processed.

Thanks that would be great!

Here is the email response we got from our inquiry in to the RFE we sent back:

Dear John XXXXXX,

Thank you for your inquiry.

California Service Center has experienced a tremendous increase in the number of mails received, which has resulted in front log of mail awaiting data-entry. Your response to our evidence request has not yet been entered into our system as of today. Now, it will approximately take 30ys to key-in mails to our system from the receiving date. This office is making every effort to address the delay. Thank you for your patience with the process.

In order to ensure a “Ten Years” card will be issued, your inquiry has been forwarded to the file. The assigned officer will review your inquiry at time of adjudication.

Sincerely,

Officer C. Chen

Is that a typo, or did they really write that it would take 30 years to input it into the system??? I got a good laugh out of that when I saw it....it can't be true!

I wondered the same thing myself when we got the email, but I can assure you that is word-for-word the reply.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Officer Chen meant days...

we laughed and were quite scared at the same time. We are assuming that it is days, but you know what happens when you assume.

30ys could just as easily be 30 days or 30 yrs

YMMV

A semi-truck, huh? I have a friend who lives in Chicago. I'm going to tell her to swing by and confirm that. Millions of applications...that would take years to approve! #######!

The applications go to Chicago, then are sent out from there to individual states, or to California for processing, so I doubt there would be anything to "see" in Chicago.

Point is, they haven't made it out of Chicago. (And they go from Chicago to Missouri, then onto CSC or local offices.)

But that is after initial processing and data entry. I think the point that WOHJ was trying to make, in the original post, is that they haven't even left the truck outside yet...let alone had any processing done on them. ;)
