I don't see how an OP asking for a thread to be closed is any less annoying than it being closed for a reason like 'the topic has been covered'.

Obviously most threads at Vj take on a life of their own, and quickly become something other than the OP intended. Does that mean they should have the 'right' to have it closed? I don't know.

Personally, I wouldn't ask for it to be closed in such an instance, but I'm not going to give someone else grief because they make a different choice than me.

There is a tendency to take O/T discussions rather more seriously than is really merited.

Still - this is the only forum I participate in where threads get locked for other reasons than that they degenerate into a flaming match.

But that's the thing...I'm not just talking flame matches.......I'm talking just bantering and then the OP comes in and locks it.

If a thread gets out of control, then fine...mods, lock it! But for any OP to have ultimate say on what goes on in the thread....so long as it doesn't violate TOS, I don't understand the control aspect that an OP has on any of his/her threads.
