i think the OP has the right to close the thread...most of the time, it is due to flames or the topic is way off topic...

Especially as (has happened a couple of times now) a request for advice has turned into a $hit-fest. If the person doesn't get the advice they need, they shouldn't be subject to extended ridicule by everyone else.

Of course there are exceptions...and I do agree that the original intent of the OP locking a thread should stay....but when it gets into deviating from the normal 'sh!t fest', then the OP doesn't 'own' a thread and shouldn't have any say where the convo goes. Really, irl does anyone here get all 'STOP TALKING ABOUT THIS NOW!' if one starts a convo and it evolves?

Lisa, is this the first time you've experienced the closing of thread?

No, and if you read my original post here, you'd see that I mentioned saying all this before as well.

There's a thread somewhere that I started once about it.

And no, it's nowt new, just irritating as hell, tbh.

If you care to share, just why did you feel the need to close that thread of 'yours' anyway?

LOL... do you REALLY REALLY wanna know?

forget it

Ok, phew...I thought I'd have to write a long drawn out explanation that would satisfy your curiosity.

BTW...what does the big, bold RFG stand for on your signature?

click on it and do the math...

OTHER THAN a thread gone horribly wrong ie wayy tmi for the OP which causes embarrassment, I don't see why the OP of any thread 'gets the power' so to speak to shut down an entire convo. I've said this before, so this is nowt new, but it does irritate me with 'I think I'll lock this soon' and 'please close this thread' when there's NO APPARANT REASON.

Your thoughts?

People are soooo sensitive. Is this an emo message board?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
