therin lies the problem. yo uare trying to rationalize it. for a lot of folks, no more reason other than "I am tired of this thread that I created" suffices. If it is truly embarrassing I have no doubt the admins would close any other thread that is created in order to keep up with the embarrasment. But if it is a valid topic, any other poster can create a new thread.

Also, try answering the question from the "why not" perspective? Any overriding reason to prohibit such closing?

I'd ventureto guess we can not come up with a compelling reason for doing so.

In my experience as a "thread closer" it is normally when the OP feels that the thread has run it's course, or when they feel that there is nothing further to be gained from leaving it open. Additionally, it may be that the thread has gone wayyyy off topic; in that case they are well within the guidelines of the TOS for having it closed.

I would agree - this is a public forum. PPL don't own the forum, they have merely suggested a discussion topic on it.
