I have been wondering the same thing about my husband. It is okay to board a plane and use your passport as ID even though the I94 is expired? Do they not worry rather or not you have filed or are here illegally?

Should you carry proof of filing?

The only people you'll be showing ID to are airline employees and TSA employees. Neither group has anything to do with immigration--they just want to see that the person with the ticket is the person named on the ticket.

But the passport I have is under my maiden name? I'm traveling under my married name. Would it not cause any problem at all? I am also traveling next week with my husband. My AOS is pending, and I dont have a SSN yet. And I-94 is expired. Help! Thanks.

Angelp, You do mean for internal US travel - yes?

If your passport is in your maiden name just make sure that your ticket is also in that name. Take a copy of your marriage certificate with you just to be sure. For US travel, they are just making sure you are who you say you are. Immigration status is irrelevant.

Travelling out of the country is a different matter.

If you have any government issued photo ID that shows your married name, you can use that for travel within the U.S. If the only photo ID you have is your passport and it still shows your maiden name, you should purchase the tickets in your maiden name.

Thank you guys! No, sadly I don't have any government issued ID at all. The only thing I have in my married name are my credit cards and health insurance card. I guess, I have to get another ticket. It's travel within the US only.

As I understand, even if i bring my marriage certificate with my passport(maiden name) it will not be a feasible option for this travel, right? Thank you all guys, this site has helped us a lot.

You should consider getting a state-issued photo ID in your married name. The driver license issuing agencies (MVD, DMV, etc.) of most states issue these for non-drivers. My wife has one and it has been very useful.

You should also check into getting your passport ammended to your married name, though that will take longer. The Consulate of your country can probably do that.

No way would I get another ticket or pay some high fee to change it!

I have seen folks here whose tickets were in their married name while the passport was in their maiden name - they took their marriage certificate with them and had no problems. In fact, check out this thread:
