My wife and daughter have just got their K3/K4 visas, and the I-130 application that I submitted on their behalf has already been approved. They are already in the US and we are going to kick off their adjustment of status process immediately. My question is, can they already apply for a Social Security Number, or must they wait until the adjustment of status process is completed and they get their green cards?

A K3 visa holder is not entitled to a SSN until they either have an EAD or a greencard.... If you are going to be filing for AOS very soon then make sure you file for the EAD along with the AOS (it is included in the cost of AOS) if on the other hand you are going to wait to file for AOS until after your 2nd wedding aniversary (so you do not have to file to remove the conditions of the Greencard) then you can file for EAD now and once approved your will be eligable for a SSN...

K2, K3 and K4 require either EAD card or Green-Card in order to apply for SSN.

Only K1 can apply for SSN within the 90 days of the I-94 card without EAD, primarily because some states require SSN from both people before issuing a marriage license.

You may want to read the SSN guide, this answer is there: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...om&page=ssn
