Hi everyone! i got a question especially for those in Manila...

I am now in the process of fillin'up DS230 form, and gathering the required documents to be submitted.. Nbi clearance in Phils seems to have to parts.. the upper part of the paper which is the original copy and the lower part which says personal copy..

Do i have to submit the whole document (original and personal) or cut it into half and keep the personal copy for me? Which one is really needed?

for those who submitted their DS230 and requirements already.. please advice or share your experience..

thanks a lot guys..

god bless!

I am a Filipina and done with this process. But we are still waiting. Unfortunately, our lawyer didn't asked about my NBI clearance. He do asked for my police certificate, birth and marriage. I sent all the original copies to them. In your case, I think you need to pass the original copy and keep the personal one for you. Just my 2 cents. :) Goodluck to us.

Correct me if I am wrong, NBI clearance is all we need on DS230 not unless our benificiary had lived outside the Philippines for more than 6 months? I am getting all the documents ready and dont want future RFEs...

They need both: NBI Clearance and Police Clearances from all the places that you lived for more than one year after age 16. They have stated that based from country requirements by NVC.

Here are the documents that you need to secure with both NVC (with the DS230) and USEM:

**Passport- photocopy of the biographic data page

**DS230 Part I (signed) and Part II (unsigned)

**Birth certificates from NSO

**Marriage certificates from NSO

**Termination of a Prior Marriage (Annulment Decree)

**Police clearance(s) (in or out of the Phils)

**NBI clearance, original most recent

You have to send in the ORIGINAL COPY to NVC.

This is the link of ALL the requirements that NVC requires of us.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3176.html

There are 2 junctions for police clearances in Philippines:

1. NBI Clearance- national

2. Police clearance- which would require you to submit a certificate from police authorities of that locality.

Read carefully the table of information of when to get one under POLICE CERTIFICATES.

As for why your lawyer did not get one, you just have to assure him that you are aware of what you could be lacking with the application. I have a couple of people that was RFE'd because of this. Obtaining the Police clearance only takes 3 days, but RFE will put your application on hold for couple of weeks to a month.

Hello RandyandRina,

For the DS-230 under Police Certificates (from the packet instructions):

1. If the Applicant lived in different part of their country of nationality (i.e. Philippines) for more than 6 months and was 16 years or older at that time -> THEN the applicant needs a police certificate from the police authorities of that locality.

You will need to get and submit Police Certificates from each locality that you had stayed for more than 6 months since you were 16 years of age. THe PC must cover the entire period of the applicant's residence in that area.

2. If the Applicant lived in a different country for more than 12 months and was 16 years or older at that time -> THEN the applicant need a PC from the police authorities of that locality (Country).

I submitted original copy of the NBI clearance (but I kept the personal copy for my renewal and for getting a new/recent clearance prior to the interview) and certified true copies of the Police Certificates from Olongapo City and San Pedro, Laguna. I have the original copies during my interview but they did not asked for it.

Although NBI clearance is a "National" clearance and would cover all the places we stayed in the Philippines, I still included PC from the places I lived since I was 16 years of age.

A member here (Jane) had an RFE because there was a discrepancy in the places she stayed since she was 16 years of age- there was an overlap of places she stayed (like Manila and a province).

So, to prevent RFE/AR, just submit those papers/documents to NVC if you have the time to get one. (Just an advise)

Helen was just "making sure". Only NBI clearance is "required" but it doesn't hurt to cover all aspects.
