I-864 missing doc = DS-230

Hello,

I have the I-864 RFE message that many of the Jame's shortcut users receive.

I confirmed with the operator that the I-864 review is complete and all is ok. Today I received the RFE in the mail, the only missing document is the DS-230. The DS-230 track was slowed by the 15 business day email response for the change of agent form.

Can I send the DS-230 with this RFE coversheet, or do I need to wait until the DS-230 is generated? From the wording on the checklist and accompaning documents it looks like I can send the DS-230.

Has anyone else run into this situation?

Thanks,

Doug

That's a very good question to ask the NVC customer service operators!

Please let us know what they tell you to do.

If you received a RFE requesting that you send the DS-230 you should go ahead and send it.

See, I think differently ^_^

Even though they say they're missing the DS-230, it doesn't mean that they have generated the form itself. You need to check with them often to find out when that is. The only reason I say that is because if you're not 100% that they have generated it and you still send it, it might delay things further.

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for your comments. I called the NVC again this morning.

1. The NVC confirmed the DS-230 was generated last week.

2. They told me I could send the DS-230 with the RFE checklist.

#2 seems questionable and I get the impression that its possible to get missinformation from the NVC operators.

Regards,

Doug

Lucky you, at least you know for sure you can send it now and be ok with the NVC.

Good luck, you're almost done!!!

If it's any reassurance, I did see another person recently who received an RFE and sent their DS-230 back with that cover sheet (RFE cover sheet) and it was accepted with no problem.

Yeah it's an interesting scenario. The way I was thinking - if the OP had just had a voice message that an item was missing, I would have suggested that they check. The fact that the NVC actually sent a hard copy RFE requesting the DS-230 seemed to me to be a valid reason to go ahead and send it.

I'd send it in with both the DS-230 barcode cover sheet and the RFE checklist.

However, I don't think it matters which way you send it really, as the DS-230 and the I-864 really have to be brought together into the same file, one way or another, for the final review before NVC releases the case. They are definitely ready to receive it if they are sending an RFE for it!

That's true. If they're requesting they might have generated it already.

I went ahead and sent it by express using the RFE checklist coverpage. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Also, I decided not to send the james shortcut DS-230 coversheet along with the checklist covershhet since I didn't want to confuse the NVC and the normal DS230 is sent to ATTN: CMR while the RFE checklist is sent to ATTN: DR

Thanks for all of your help.

Please let us know how your case completes at NVC; you may have found another shortcut route for some of us when this happens.

Interesting. I'd like to know as well.

I was leaving for Sydney to see my wife and I took a gamble sending in the DS-230 prior to leaving. I had already received the "we have received payment of the IV Bill and will be sending further (DS-230) info in 8 weeks..." message.

I gambled on the generation date for the following Monday (which happened to be correct). In any case, I also received that missing documents RFE phone message/letter. I confirmed that my self-generated DS-230 cover sheet and DS-230 form had been received the same day that the RFE phone message/letter was generated. 12 days later, I received the case complete.

I think that it really won't matter which route you take though. After going through this process, I am starting to think that the only thing that matters is for the NVC is to be able to match the case number to their checklist.

Good luck!
